Anyone tried the above combo in the gloop ?

Was thinking 2.35 on the front and 2.1 on the back both in 62a compound ?

Currently running 2 x 2.25 Ardents for the dry but recent weather is making my local trails extra sloppy.

What other combo's are people running ?

I run exactly that combo. The only situation I find it struggles in is mud!!

The rear really clogs up and starts to spin. I've just bought a 2.1 Advantage for the rear to give that a go.

I have tried other tyres, but I can't get the cornering confidence or wet rock performance out of anything else.

I guess all tyres have a situation where they don't perform as well, it's just a case of finding the right balance for the conditions you are riding in. I may have to get a mud specific tyre for the winter.

Interesting.

I have heard something like Bontrager Mud X or Scharble mud shark are prettyy good....wasnt sure if they would be a bit too mud specific.

Got some Mud X on order now. Really like them, loads of grip and not too draggy considering they're purely designed for mud riding.

Ardents I really like......they are awesome in the dry, loads of grip, fast rolling and 2.25s have massive casings for 'rock ignorant rim protection'. Also good in the wet....only time I came unstuck was in the mud, bike went side ways, surfed for a bit then it spat me off sideways!  zero grip.

I think intrail centes where there is hardpack or rock undernearth they are great...if its just mud, it gets a bit dicey.

Also tried 2.35 high-roller on the front and 2.1 nobby nic on the back which seems quite good for XC use.  Better than my mates mountain kings he got on his Orange 5 who struggled to stay upright for very long.

i use high roller 2.35 on the front + advantage 2.1 on the back + find them the right combination of grip, weight + rolling resistance . when the conditions gets really muddy I swop to panracer trailrakers on the front + back.

How do you get on with the trailraker on the front? I just used it on the back. Brilliant at digging in and getting on with it.

Depends what type of mud.

If it's thin mud, where you can usitilse the sideknobs well, then HRs are fine. Anything else, and you're talking about some sort of wet tyre, like swampthings.

I just keep with High rillers all the time, as i ride a variety of surfaces in one ride.

I have a set of Highrollers, Minions. Trailrakers and Nobby Nics.

At the moment I'm using the Nobby Nics there great for mixed conditions and clear mud well.

The Trailrackers are good for the endless mud and are surprisingly good in other conditions.

The Minions are a brilliant tyre for heavy mixed conditions they get a grip on any surface.

The Highrollers I just don't get on with them, on the rear the other three tyres give more forward grip and on the front both the NN and Minions corner better on loose trails.
