Hi everyone. I own a 05 Meta 4.3 and have suffered a crack around where the cross bar meets the seat post tube. On the later models there is a gusset around this area. I have been in touch with the UK brand manager and he says that this is unheard of (why the gusset on the later ones?) I was just wondering if anyone has suffered the same?. . . .  before I throw all my toys out of the pram!!!

seatposts maybe a little to high?

i was at laggan the other day and this guy had his seat up high, around the height a normal XC rider would have his, but this guys post was obviously a lot shorter and u could hear it creak every pedal stroke and bend also, not good.

My seatpost at the maximum height I would ever have it has 130mm in the frame which takes the post below the bottom of the top tube

about 35mm below the bottom of top tube and thats the highest I would ever have it for riding on the road. Off road on singletrack I have it about 20mm lower and at a trail centre a bit lower again

ok, you are meant to have about an inch and a half or more below the top tube i believe, that is the best from what i have heard

Dont know where you got that from but its a load of balls. You should go by the minimum insertion mark on the seatpost not by where the top tube is. I have a steel frame with brazed on bolt up seatpost clamp. An inch and a half below the bottom of the top tube would leave the minimum insertion mark sticking above the top of the frame.

No offence to you mate but internet crap like that could mean some poor sod ends up chewing the ground when his seatpost snaps.

no its not that bad, according to iain (from another thread, if i read rightly) the insertion mark should be at or bollow the top tube meeting the seat tube, not at the seat clamp! Sorry if i was wrong

Your not quite right on that either what about frames that have an interrupted seat post or a suspension pivot that stops the seatpost going down very far you would never get the post down far enough to get the minimum insertion mark below the top tube. Also if you had a Thompson layback post you wouldnt get it down far enough and if there is one company thats keen on safety its thompson.

That doesn't make any sense. I think marks are on seatpost so that you can see when it is full out so in my opinion marks can be at seat clamp. It is just not practical to make marks where top tube should be.
Also this year quite some Metas cracked at that place so I guess it is manufacturing problem. 2010 frames have less narrow top tube at that part.
