Hi guys,

Just got my new VIP Meta 6 from Merlin.

After unpacking it I've realised that I don't have the following:

- Joplin remote lever - got the seatpost, just not the level/cable

- Maxle - got some dropouts (should one be threaded?) but no actual axle.

Am I correct in assuming I should have these or are they things I need to buy additionally?!

Don't know but those items are not mentioned on their web jobby.  Ring them up & ask.  They're fine on't phone.  Just hopeless with emails.

As far as the maxle goes,if u have been given a qr for the current wheels? then u wouldnt also get the maxle i dont think, they just supply u with the other drop outs so u can go down that route if u so choose.

It's frame only, so no stock wheels and no qr.

I have dropouts for both qr and 12mm thru, but wasn't sure if I would get the axle with them...

No, you don't get an axle with them.
Depending on what frame you get, you'll get QR and a set of 12mm bolt through dropouts.

If you want a maxle, you'll need to pay the extra for the conversion kit.

I got the Meta 6 VIP 2009.

I've got two sets of hangers, one QR and the other 12mm bolt thru.

Should one side of the bolt thru hangers be threaded? Like in following:

How come the axle doesn't come with the frame?!

What about the Joplin R without a remote lever?!

I got the Meta 6 VIP 2009.

I've got two sets of hangers, one QR and the other 12mm bolt thru.
That's standard for most VIP frames that have the option between QR and Bolt through dropouts.

No. Standard 12mm dropouts are not threaded.
Only the maxle specific dropout is threaded.

They just don't.
Probably because most people won't use the 12mm dropouts, as they'll just use standard QR.

Don't know.

Cheers for your help mc.

I was planning on calling Merlin tomorrow about the Joplin remote thing, but now know not to mention the maxle!

Its just a case of me buying a 12mm bolt thru shaft and running it with that, saving the £70 on the full maxle kit!

Also, should the frame come with any sort of setup manual for the shock/sus?  Or is it all t'internet based now!

Just a silly point, but I think the VIP option comes with the standard Joplin post which has the little lever under the seat. The remote is only supplied with the 'Joplin R' ?

I ran a 666 for 18 months without a maxle, but if I was doing it again I'd buy a maxle conversion kit. As to why it doesn't come with one, I pretty sure Commie have never specc'd a frameset with one, not even the Supremes. Some companies do and build it into the price, some don't I guess?

For RP23 set-up, it is all online on the Fox website. ( though you may find that the contact system is so good, you may not find that the pro-pedal makes huge amounts of difference ).

Hope that helps

Cheers Tim.

Its the Joplin R that comes with the VIP frameset.

http://www.commencal.com/news/bicycles/geometry/meta6_09.pdf

I've found a bolt thru axle on the Orange website (usually for the 224) but might be suitable for the standard 12mm hangers.

Either that or the Maxle - not generally in a hurry to remove the rear wheel!

Hmmm, I would take that with a pinch of salt as it also says that is comes with a Maxle fitted.

The specs vary with territory, I think the UK distributor ( Madison ) specs them without the Maxle and with the Joplin, rather than the Joplin R. This will no doubt be down to a competitive market place and trying to keep the costs down ( at an educated guess ).

It is confusing though as even commencal.co.uk now points to the .com site  Huh?

Interesting.  The seatpost in the box doesn't have the lever tho, it has the screw bolt for attaching the cable release...

Hence the confusion!

Any idea where the torque settings are kept for the pivots?  Want to check them prior to riding!

Now that is confusing, sounds like you still need to call Merlin and get a remote sorted!
