Right ... Time to get something off my wee chest.
I know it is the ignorant few's blame but is it just me, or is it the case that where-ever we seem to cycle on our beloved trails and in the countryside, there is rubbish strewn all over?
Power Bar wrappers, plastic water bottles, sweetie wrappers, etc., etc. Not only is this horrible to see, it is also the height of ignorance and it gives us cyclists a bad name (as if we didn't get into enough bother as it is!!!).
Please, please put your rubbish in your pockets and don't needlessly litter. There really is no excuse.

100% agree - seen a lot of this recently, which I put down to slightly better weather so more riders out. Still not good though.

The last time I went around our local reservoir I stopped by the side and sat down. Ended up pulling out of the water a load of fishing wire!
Then a plastic bottle was on the ground near me, I retrieved them both and was just about to put them in my bag and there was a bin not 10 meters away
I am at a loss as why people do it.

Yeah that is something that really gets on my nerves. Just the other week after i had finshed a good sesh up the local woods i went about picking up other peoples rubbish. Filled a carrier bags worth of crap. Mostly the younger riders that drop it. It will get to the point when local riding spots will become a no go.

Here in Poland it's a nightmare... I don't know what's happen with people, but the country looks so dirty, rubbish everywhere... they apparently don't care about it, they like to be in their own sheet
I live in a forest and I regularly take a big 100L rubbish bag and spend few hours piking up the bottles, bags, etc. In a few month I filled 5 of them...
When I meet people they look at me like an alien, but once an old man congratulated me!
Everything for nothing as everyday I can see a new can or whatever
The authorities are doing almost nothing, it means they are cleaning next to the road, but further nothing...

I guess one authority is as cash strapped as another vis a vis litter collectors - but we can't blame them - the responsibility is with the perpetrator! I too don't understand the mindset of these people who drop rubbish without a thought ... It's just so sad the don't even think to care!

I'm not too proud too pick other peoples rubbish up, I usually put it into the outside netting on the bag so all the walkers I pass can see it

We have similar probs on my local trails with the younger riders who dont care where they litter , i resorted to being a bit agrro with them and requesting they clean up , it worked for some of them but not all so now i spend half hour a week with a black bag cleaning it all up , its normally a full bag by the end of the clean up.
Littering is a major crime in my eyes and i think anyone who litters must have such a bad attitude in general , we even outed a guy from our riding group cos of his littering habbits , i mean who with a honest mind and morals would go out to a beautifull forest and leave it looking like shit?

Yeap, thats' very nice!
They also organise such a day over here, and it's done by children, only children.
In a way that's the better solution to make them sensible to such an important thing as taking care of our environment, but in another hand I'm sad (or choked) to see that's children are cleaning up such horrible things as used condoms (sorry for that but it's sadly true...)... don't you think?

As a younger rider ( im 19) id like to agree and say how horrible it is to get to the top a trail, and see rubbish everywhere.
me n my riding mates absolutely hate it, we are always careful to take our rubbish home, i think the problem is that when people see one piece of litter they then think that one more bit wont make much of a difference and then in not too long theres loads about the place

The amount of litter really is awful!!!!
I was doing my local hack last week, and at the beginning/end there are some jumps in a wood (Kings wood nr Axbridge if anyone knows it), and there was an elderly lady picking up all the crap that the local 'yoots' couldn't be bothered to put in the bin 50m away. They were quite happy to lug their carrier bags up there full of coke and choccie, but not get rid of it when they'd finished!!! Anyway, I then had to try and reassure her that we, mtbers, aren't all like that, and listen to her rant on, quite understandably, about the state of the place. Then later in the week, I went to Cwmcarn, and lo and behold at the top next to the freeride section..... crap everywhere!!!
It maybe stereotypical of me to assume it, but it does seem to be a problem where the younger mtbers hang out, which isn't to say that us oldies (38yrs=oldieish?) are saints.
We all need to get a grip on this, and if you see someone dropping litter, politely point it out to them. If they ignore you, point it out not so politely!!!!
Phew.... I feel better now.
