Hey guys,
Have been looking in to getting some new wheels for my Absolut 1, but need some suggestions/opinions/experience from you lot!
I ride Glentress type stuff and some street and some 4X and would like to keep weight down but strength up so my thinking was....
Hope Pro II's on DT Swiss 5.1/Mavic 721/ or possibly the Syncros DS 23 but is it too weak for that kind of riding? Maybe go a bit burlier and go for the DS 28's? Any other hub and rim combo's for 4X/Bike park type riding but keeping it light? Any advice or suggestions most appreciated!
Thanks!

-I am getting the Pro 2 and EX5.1D combo so i suggest tht, cant go wrong (ps the hub at glentress the the pair for £210 BLOODY CHEAP I THINK) - the other option is Halo Freedom Disc but i am not sure hoow heavy they are but they are very strong for a relatively cheap price

Thanks for the heads up about The Hub. My only concern is the rear hub, as the Absolut has horizontal dropouts and I run gears using the mech hanger which is attached to the rear bolt through. My thinking was that i'd have to get the Hope bolt through rear hub and not quick release.

Halo freedom discs on spindoctor hubs is a good cheap and relatively light option, they whole wheelset is only around 2.3kg which anit far off the 2.2 of the syncros and dt swiss ones, but the halos would be stronger and they come in a 10mm bolt through option for the rear.

I don't know much about the Halo's, but they seem pretty popular on here. I think the 10mm bolt through is the best option as it will give me better peace of mind and should be stiffer. The search will continue..
Cheers

What about atomlab wheels? the pimplite set are nice and light at 2.1kg and the hubs are super reliable, those are the wheels im getting for my mini dh,also only aroiund the 200 mark which is nice and cheap, and atomlab claim that they make some of the strongest rims on the market! ... oh and they come in white with white spokes (or u can go for the lighter titanium spokes which are a ace rainbow colour)

Atomlab have been one of those brands that i've never really been enticed by. Saying that, i'd like to have a look at the titanium spoked ones! Who stocks them?

I wouldnt really have a pair of halos out of personal pefrence. On another note i have owned both hope pro 2 and 721 wheels and pro 2 and 5.1 wheels. Both are extremely good wheels 721's maybe a bit stronger but lil bit heavier, but not alot heavier. I currenty run the hope pro2 5.1's on my max max and they feel real nice. I run the hope 10mm bolt up kit by the way. hope this helps.

Cheers Alex, just the kind of things I wanted to hear! Are you running gears on your Max Max out of interest?
Right, i'm going with the Hope hubs for definite! Just got to sort the rims now.
Thanks

Titanium is a rubbish material for spokes. It's too springy.

I was thinking of the resilience myself and to be honest, they would be too expensive to be practical. Good for novelty/showing off factor though!

Its cool Lary,
Single speed at the moment, but will end up with gears. If i'm right in thinkin that the absolut and the max max share the same drop out system you will have to run either a 10mm bolt up kit or a through axle. Becuase standard quickrelease dosnt work.
As for rims 721's or 5.1s build nicely on to hopes.

Hey Alex,
That was really my main concern (the back wheel) so 10mm bolt up it is! I think the 721's are going to be the ones to be honest. The price of DT Swiss is a bit silly but Mavic are close!
Cheers!
