Here another which bike topic. Also my first post on this forum  Smiley

Here we go: Currently living in the Dominican Republic but moving back to the Netherlands in early April. I want to buy a new bike and got my eye on Commencal. First of all because they are great looking bikes and second because you don't see everybody riding them and I don;t want to go with the crowds.

What I am looking for is a playfull bike. Jumps, flickable, some DH in Germany, Belgium and France and it must be able to pedal a bit.
I looked at the Furious CG and this bike seems like a ton of fun. I am a bit concerned that the bike is to big and doesn't do to good at the local trails in the Netherlands. Maybe a bit overbuild for the purpose?

Or can I better buy 2 bikes: 1 would be the 2009 Supreme 1 Racing and the other a 2008 Absolute 2. Using the Supreme 1 more for the traills and the bike parks and the Absolut for jumps and as my playbike to have some fun on the street and dirt.

If the second option: can I better go for the Absolut 2 2008 to save some money or the Absolute 2 2009 or maybe the CG singlespeed version.

- Only Furious or Supreme and Absolut?
- Which Absolute?
- SingleSpeed or Cassette?
- Which Size for the bikes? I am 184cm so 6.05 feet

Looking to buy to bike(s) complete, so Stock.

The supreme will do everything you want it to do, then you can get a HT if you feel like it

I agree, the supreme can do ALMOST everything the furious can just differently and not quite as well, as its designed for DH, whereas the furious is for FR (if you know what i mean). they are also more versatile it terms of what you can do with them!! Hope helps  Smiley

The supreme is an awsome bike and it will do anthing u throw at it,if u build it up with an air shock and a set of adjustble travel air forks it willl kick ass at trail riding as well as others, but if u spec it with more burly options such as coil shock and beefy coil forks (as the original full build shows) then is will do anything and also rip up the dh trails with ease. i have done what u have mentioned in your option 2,i have the 08 mini dh1 (supreme) and the 08 absolut 2, and if u ask me that is a perfect coupling,i can cover all aspects of riding with no comprimise that way. As for whether to go for the 08 absolut to save money...defo man,its much the same build as the 09 one and is much cheaper, the only pron u are left with is can u actually get hold of a new 08 absolut 2? i had great difficulty getting one 6months ago,so it wont be easy now. Also you will want the absolut in long, cos im around the same height as you and i def wouldnt want it any smaller, its quite a small bike in the long size anyways.

Haha no such thing as credit crisis here  Grin

I think I go for the option with the Supreme 1 and an Absolut as my playbike. I buy them both stock and maybe change parts later. Will see about that. I will phone some shops in the next days to see where I can get a good deal for the bikes....

What about sizes. I am 184 cm, so I guess for both bikes a long?

Should I buy a singlespeed Absolut or with a cassette? What are your experiences?

Thanks again!

Ybo

I personally think singlespeed is best, then you can take your front brake off too and you can do tricks and things, and its ighter, just my thoughts!

This is what I have done; I just ordered a Supreme 1 2009 and a Absolut 2 2009  Grin Both BabyBlue :-)

Since the Supreme 1 is not in stock anymore, I will receive it in a couple of weeks. First Bikeactive is going to send the Absolut and my 661 stuff.

I ordered the bikes stock and will see later if I need any upgrades. I asked to trow in an upgrade on the pedals, let's see what they do.

Until sofar I received great service and a very good deal.

I will post some photo's in a couple of weeks when I have both of my bikes and are back in the Netherlands.

Thanks for your help guys.

Now I have to wait until the beginning of April to see my new baby's Cry

well welcome to the elite group of people who own two Commencals.
We should set up a breakaway website - the Commencal and Commencal Owners Club Smiley
My bikes of choice are a 2008 Meta 55.1 and a very sexy Titanium Special Edition hardtail (kind of like a grown up version of Dan A's little titanium 4x bike:))

Hi mate

only taking in the basics of your questions. - u need a a bit of a dh bike with a bit of xc? (no hills in netheralnds!) so why not consider a super 4 or 4x machine - light versatile and do anything?

just a thought! i may be wrong depending on frequency of your riding and trips to the hills in places outside of holland - and i may have missed a bit of reading above - but ? do it all in one bike i say.

personally went for long travel fork ti hardtail - awesome machine and does everything i want. a super 4 sounds good for you.

but hey - if u can get two bikes i would do that too. Grin

I going to live in the East of the Netherlands where are some hills. Also there are some good DH/FR spots on about 2 hour drive in Germany and Belgium.
Supreme will fit my needs with that and an Absolut at the side for playing around in my back yard and on the street.....
