Hi,
I am looking into buying a Meta 5.5.2 in the next few weeks. The only question i have is what size do i go for? Large or would i be better off with a medium? I am 6ft1 and have a 32" inside leg. Your help would be much appreciated.
Cheers
Karl

I ride a medium Meta 5.5.2 and am 5'8" (1.77m ish) with a 29" inside leg, so I guess a large would be spot on for you.  According to the Commencal web site, medium is for people 1.7m to 1.8m, large for 1.8m to 1.9m.

Just under 6' and ride a large 5.5.2 '07. Should be spot on for you.
Reckon XL is for 6.3+

I have recently ridden a '08 meta 5.5 (demo) in large I am 6'2" with 34"inside leg_I am baffled as to which size to get as with stock seatpost at max height I could not get full leg extension (would a 400mm+ post help) if I fitted a longer post then this shifts weight further back. + I intend to fit coil lyrik forks which  is going to slacken the head angle slightly and effectively shorten the top tube. The large I rode had a 90mm or so stem fitted. something I would swop for 70mm all things considered XL?
It is proving difficult to try an XL so any advice would be much appreciated

In reply to In1911:

You most likely do need the XL. I have a XL demo (and some very cheap XL 07 meta bikes if that interests you), but I'm in Belfast, which might not be too local to you. Still, your welcome to come over and try it!

Similar decision here.

I'm a shade under 6' and have opted for the Medium to give me more of an all round chuckable trail bike to compliment my DH riding, rather than a long ride XC setup.  I'm on the S/M DH bike and it's perfect and I've raced smallish XC bikes in the past.

My current XC bike is a good fit, it's a medium and top tube comes in exactly between the M and L Meta!  I'm going for the lower standover height of the Medium 5.5.  The slacker seat angle should stretch the cockpit with the seat up a bit.

What stem is anyone running on theirs?  I've got a 70mm that I'll try.

im 6ft and ride a medium Meta5.53.. but i like a smaller bike to throw around on the downs, i still do 40km pedals on it tho... A bit of playing around with bars710mm/stem70mm/seatpost350mm/saddle and it's spot on for everything...

Nearly replaced every part at this stage tho... Ah well!! i do alot of mileage in sandy/dirty/wet terrain so it tends to consume parts.... Frame and Rear shock still original and just replaced my first rear shock bushing so not doing to bad... Cool

I think Nuggets and others experience shows the versatility of the frame. I'm 6'3" (same as SteveB, only lighter  Wink) and I too ride an XL. I bought without a test ride and when it arrived I thought I'd dropped a b*****k as it looked so BIG! But when I built her up and sat on the saddle, everything just fell into place. SteveB is a great judge of sizes so you may want to go with his suggestions. If Id gone large I would be showing serious post and probably have slowed the steering up with a longer stem, none of which is a problem really... just my tuppence worth... Tongue

I'm 6'1" and ride a medium - nice and short, but still fine for longer rides.

Jeff and Nugget - exactly what I wanted to hear!  Cheers guys, I got good sizing advice for my riding style and I'm pretty confident I'll like it.  Just getting paranoid Smiley

The M is 12mm shorter than my current bike, the L is 12mm longer but 50mm higher in the top tube.  For the riding I do, I'd rather have the clearance!  12mm can probably be taken up in seat rails anyway.

Only two weeks or so till my bike arrives!

I'm getting a full bike and swapping forks, wheels, stem, post and tyres.  Fussy. Moi?!
