I know what I did last summer, how about you?

Wow, time has flown since last I was here, talking rubbish and spreading the love of bikes.
My season was pretty cool, I received my Superteam and it was sweet in green, and fast as a motorbike (almost), it then cracked from a faulty weld, and after a frustrating wait was replaced and finished two days before I went to Morzine.
It rained there, but at least I got good on roots (I ride and live in Norway, it's generally hot & dry here, unless it's winter and it's snowed).
Quote of the year, by my friend as we sat in a chairlift in Hafjell in the rain "Come on! Is this
all
you've got? I
SWEAT
more than this!" it then tipped down, of course it stopped raining while we rode down, so we took another trip up on the lift... it rained again. No jackets of course.
I then bought myself a Meta 55 VIP, and haven't stopped loving it since. That bike is the nuts!
Best ride on it was the Fakkelmann (Torchrunner), which was a 15km ride up a mountain only to ride down to the bottom over 2 km! Long slog, but harsh decent! My riding buddy and I flew past a women "walking" up, as we were coming down, she was basically on all fours!
I hope 09 is as good as 08.
What was the highlight of YOUR year?

Nice thread...
Mine is my trip to Cwmcarn on the 666.
Yes I destroyed my 55's ( but hasn't everyone? ), but I was hitting stuff as hard as the 8inch racers who were also on the uplift.
Roll on 09 with some trips to Ae and Innerliethen DH trails :-)
See my headcam of Cwmcarn

Probably a long weekend in north Wales with good mates doing Coed Y Brenin, Betws-Y- Coed and finally Coed Llandegla. Some really good varied riding and a good laugh.
As recommended by Vic-Tim - thanks Tim.
Off to Verbier in the summer on the new Supreme - can't wait.

It was all about returning to the sport for me. I had started in the mid 80's and been really into the whole scene and then after over 10 years of offroad fun incl visiting Marin County, etc I was hit by a car. Injured pretty badly - ie. couldn't stand for 3 months. Didn't walk for 6 months, etc.
I gave up riding because I could never ride like before (I was fairly handy on a bike imho) and that was that. However my kids have got into cycling and I found myself with a handful of bike mags rather than car mags to take on our summer holiday. The bug got me again and I dusted off my old Fisher (now you'll get the username) but found a crack in the headtube. Then I spent a while debating on whether to take the plunge on a new bike or not.
Finally the Merlin sale got me thinking I had little to lose at those prices for entry level stuff. So I now have an '08 v brake Normal. Not exciting for the machines on this site but fine for the stuff I can do right now. Plus it does singletrack well enough which has I have been addicted too since those early days.
So, in terms of mountain biking community, 2008 held little in terms of wow factor but on a personal level it was HUGE!
So glad to be back.

The highlight of my year was probably getting my supreme...... shortly followed by my lowest point when i dislocated my shoulder on my 1st run on my bike on a track that I had built all by myself and could not ride it for 3 months :/

2008 memories
highlights for me were getting a meta 5 xt at the start of the year + it was love at first ride
trying a bit of dh for the first time
loads of great spins in april / may with some decent weather
getting a decent set of lights for the night spins
low points
shit weather for the summer
after the shit weather I booked a week in spain with switchbacks + on my first full day over there I had a blowout on my front tyre while flying down the great escape section , over the handlebars
+ badly sprained my ankle , end of cycling for me for 4 weeks
roll on 2009 + more highs + lows

Probably just heading to Glentress every other weekend with my mates. Red route for us, have a laugh and try and egg each other on as much as possible. Can't beat it.
Any advice for Morzine Rufus? Me and my mates are going there in the first week of July. What the best routes, best pubs etc

I love my biking and my biking highlight was just finding a bike like the Meta. Fantastic.
My highlight of the whole year though was 3 blue powder skiing days in Cham in April. Big grins all round
Not that I'm that good, but it was just fantastic and my skiing moved on to another level.

My highlights of the year were getting my miniDH up and running.
Visiting Glentress for the first time, rode until I could not even walk. Staying in Peebles, few pints, good mates with me, happy days.
Hope to repeat a few times this year all being well, 4hour drive is a pain in the a**se though, but so worth it when you get there.
Dalby is my local trail centre, the highlight there was clearing the big tables for the first time.
This year I have just fitted new forks and brakes and can't wait for the summer, come on!!

I think the highlight of last year for me would of been riding all the shore on Vadar's lair at Mabie Darkside without dabbing.
Headed down on my own one day I was of work, and just had a nice chilled out ride taking in my favourite bits of Mabie.
Off course, the fortnight I had in france was good aswell, but the removing copious amounts of skin on the first day kind of ruined it a bit

Hey thanks Oldfisher, I found this story really inspiring, that really made my day! I always think it's cool when people get bitten by "the bug", and it's even cooler when people get "re-bitten". It doesn't matter what you ride, it's the width of your grin, or: smile per hour, not mile per hour!
Cramaj, Morzine is always good, I think it just rained everywhere in 08, I've been there twice before at about the same time and it was sunny as hell (37 degrees celsius, too hot to ride!).
But stay at the Nantugue, it might not be 5 star, but it's cheap, and really cheerful! And the food that Dug makes will make you consider a major lifestyle change!!!
Say hi from me if you stay there, and maybe I'll see you there in July!

Highlights of last year:
Entering the Commencal fold and getting a bike that constantly makes me grin.
Going faster and harder on everything thanks to owning full sus for the first time.
Pimping the thing up and buying all those lovely bits!
Discovering this place full of fellow Commencalites
Oh, and non bike related going to Canada to spend New Years Eve with a girl I'd been talking to for 10 months online and on the phone and having it all work out perfectly. Can't wait to hit the trails when I go back! And then there's a certain place called Whistler
Lows of the year:
Paying for the Commie.
Realising just how easily the white paint scratches up and holds the dirt.
Getting a bloody big hemorrhoid on my arse in October and not being able to ride since then
Non bike related, cracking some ribs while snowboarding in Canada

Thanks Rufus I'll have a look at Nantuge.
Cunning - oh dear sounds painful - can you not just shove them back in and get on with it? Or does it not work like that? Not that I want a thread about Duke of Argyll's to continue... just enquiring.

Highlight for me was also Morzine in July. 5th time out there and still as good as the first. Lowlight was breaking too many bits on my 666 whilst I was there and having to pay stupid prices for rear mechs etc!! Oh and the rain but as Rufus says it's normally roasting.
Stayed the same place as Rufus. The full name is Chalet Le Nantegue and it's run by Ski Morzine. See
http://www.summermorzine.com/accommodation/chalets/chalets.php
Cramaj, definitely recommend checking it out. Cheap and cheeful but the people that run it are fantastic and Doug's cooking is legendary!!! Oh and if you like jumps they have a set of doubles in the back garden!
