Very sensible question.................

Until you ride both bikes, then for me there was no question. It HAD to be a Meta.
The pitch is a fantastic bike with killer value, but just seems too 'clinical' i demo'd one for a weekend at Coed-y-Brenin and at first was amazed at how i was riding, but then it all seemed a little dull. Don't get me wrong, great bike and good riding but no big grins.

Then i got the Meta and went back to CYB, man alive what a difference, i felt like i was riding like a teenager who had stolen a bike. I was chucking it around like 'a ginger stepchild' - awesome, i came back in love with that bike, a week later i was riding at Innerleithen in Scotland and came off - Bust my wrist in 2 places and REALLY realised how much i love riding bikes! Needless to say the Meta was completely unscathed!

Got to be your decision, try em, then buy the Meta and you'll be stoked.

I rode a pitch at a demo day its a very good bike for the price and nearly bought it but in a flash of brilliance i got a Meta 5.5.2 09 instead because of this one reason:

At Glentress last sunday nearly every bike was a specialized or trek.  Roll Eyes So i would say be different for the masses.

Basically i can get a Pitch on ride to work for 583 or pay 1400 for a meta...

I really wanted the meta but is it twice as good?

I had a really bad fall off a Canondale and totally lost my confidence so decided to change my bike to something less twitchy.  I demoed a Specialized Safire and it was better but a bit dull - I suspect that most of the Specialized bikes are like that, then I demoed the Meta 5 and immediately loved it.  I bought one at the beginning of the year and from being a nervous rider on anything remotely rocky or technical I now fly down rocky river beds and steps and love all the interesting technical stuff.  I know that there is a lot of difference in the price for you because of the bike scheme but if you are going to ride a lot then get the bike that you really want (as long as youve got the money for it) otherwise you will always regret that you didnt spend that bit extra.  I have had my bike for a year and I cant see me wanting to change it till the frame gives out and then it will be another Meta 5.  But demo both bikes and see for yourself.

I demo,d several diffrent bikes orange 5/santa cruz super light/orange se/yeti 575. And except for the yeti which was way above my price range the meta 552 was the best by far, some were better down hill some up others single track but the meta had the whole package.

At llandegla for £50 they let you demo as many bikes in a month as you like I took around 5/6 out and you even get the 50 knocked off if you buy a bike it is well worth it.

Can't you get a Meta anywhere on the 'ride to work' scheme?

BTW November's issue of SIngletrack tested the Pitch.
Really liked it, especially for the price.

They also really really liked the Meta 55XT a while back...
