I just weighed my 08 mini dh and it topped the scales at 42.6lbs,not so good me thinks  Shocked  all i have done is replaced the high rollers with minions, which should only have added 1.6lbs of extra weight so i dunno where the other 2lbs has come from, the grips i changed were the same weight and i doubt the mud guard i fitted weighed that! i have got it down to 42lbs now by fitting my magnesium pedals.
So im now on a weight reducing mission, new tyres are on the cards, some kevlar bead ones i reckon and some new wheels, also prob bars!
Any1 know how much weight i can loose by changing the seat? want to get it to 37-38lbs ideally with spending around £500 only.

Might be worth checking that there's no water in the seat tube ?

loose all that white paint?
or is that out of the question - white before weight? Grin

i aint painted any of the mini dh yet tho,so that aint in issue with that. and when i replace the bars and wheels on the absolut then that will solve it there.

those ibeam seat and post combos are VERY light - just do up the seat to the post very tight and never change it after that (as the plastic groves get rooted).

man thats heavey! 42lbs!!! my supreme dh with full on DH build is only 41 lbs.

I would say your best bet is to change your wheel set as you can get hold of some super light and super strong combos at the moment , also easton handle bars/stem/seatpost will drop it down a fair bit

When you have time, can you post your build kit. That seems heavy when your frame is around the 10lbs mark.

my mini d came with a truvative crank, man that thing was heavy. Replaced it with a shimano hone. it also came with an ultra heavy headset, replaced that with a hope.

Yours is an 08 mini dh 1 right? same as mine.

Mine only weighs 38lbs with lighter stem bars brakes etc and heavier wheels and tyres,
I recall it was about the same out the box. sure your scales are accurate?

The main culprit is the fork (maz 66 rcv) it weights about 3.2kg! I'me having a set of 2010 boxxers soon as i can get them, in white of course!

Like steve says the raceface cranks weigh a ton too.

You put new tubes in when you changed the tyres?

I did that with some of those with the gunk inside. Couldn.t believe how much heavier they were and much worse when rolling.

Mine is an 07 but it was definitely a lot overweight when I got it.

I saved weight on the seat and post, switching to an SDG I beam. And am planning to save more by switching cranks and rear cassette, as posted above, the Truvatives weigh a ton. Stem isnt bad, but the bars are pretty heavy too. Fork is a bit of a pig too, but that is obviously a pretty expensive way to save weight....

hey man!

Go for a light set of wheels!
Since I've swapped the stock wheels on my supreme for a nice set of 09 deemax (2100kgs the pair + ust minions) the difference was immediate and immense!
I got rid of 1 kg (2.20 pounds) allround but the main benefit  is that my bike accelerates and stops faster than ever!
it's just under the 43 pounds mark but u get the feeling that u r riding a 33 pound bike!

light set of wheels makes all the difference, mate!

Eric

Its just the stock 08 mini dh1,except for new tyres(minion dh's) same inner tubes as stock, new grips(bought from iain, but i very much doubt they are heavier than standard,i reckon they will be lighter, anyhows they are white so it doesnt matter if they weighed 30kgs on their own, they would stay  Grin ) and i have fitted a new nukeproof spring also front mud guard, just a small plastic one which is reckon weighs only a few grams.

The scales are new and seem to be spot on with everything else(they are hanging scales, for like parcels that kinda thing) and as for the wheel option that is something i want to go down, can any1 reccommend a nice set of WHITE rims that are strong and light?need to be good for dh and freeride, but not cost the earth, want to only spend 200-300 on wheels.

The forks i know are heavy but they are expensive to replace so they can stay till they break (now where did i put my hammer?  Wink ).

The bars i will replacing with some deity i reckon, but i did weigh my bike when it was like -5 deg C so that may have had something to do with it(cold air makes tyres etc heavier and the air in them would also be heavier)

So...wheels...reccommend some to me....have to be white!!

How about some nice white Spank Subrosa's, they look great and seem good value.

My gf had her rims powder coated. You can get that done with any rims you choose. She had Stan's Flow rims done, which have held up to her abuse. She likes to plow through things instead of avoiding the hits. I am also using Flow rims but in their original color.
