Heya people,

Im looking for a bit of help.  Im after a new frame and have been interested in the meta 6 since it came out but haven't heard  the best of things about in the magizines etc.  So I was hoping I could get some opinions of people who actually ride them on a regular basis.

The sort of riding I will be doing is trails centres like, Glyncorrwg, cwmcarn and the scottish centres.  However I will also be using the frame for stuff like Cwmcarn DH, Llantrisant DH, and runs on my local trails which inlude several drops etc.

Any help would be awesome ta  Smiley

i know the trails you speak of well, and the 6 would be perfect. a nice bulky build with some nice wide rims and big tyres would rip it up.

I built my Meta 6 VIP over Christmas and i can honestly say its the best thing i have owned to date. Fine for xc long rides and as good as my Mini DH on the downs. Seriously great bike....Buy one !

I still ride one of the first Meta 666's ( custom frameset ) to come into the country and moved to it from a VIP MiniDH.

I wanted a bike that would handle DH tracks but also be able to get round the trail centres which are popping up all around the place.

I have messed with the build a little and it is still not perfect ( my wheels are bomber but too heavy and my handlebar is too narrow ), but I still love it.

It flew down Cwmcarn, it survived an Atherton Course, it has been all over North Wales and the Lakes and only now does it need a bit of a service  Grin

It is a true 'one-bike-does-all' option!

Only advice would be go double ring set-up with bash guard and get some nice Fox forks up front ( avoid 55's like the plague ).

Build the rest up with light but burly and you are not going to go wrong!

Hope that helps

Hopefully I am going to take delivery of a loud green 09 VIP 666 frame this week, Going to fling my Fox 36 Vanillas on it. I ride on the Surrey Hills and Welsh Trail centres...usually Cwn Carn and Afan. I do the usual annual trip to the Alps and used a Meta 5 there last summer. I blew the rear shock pretty quickly. My question to you present owners of the 666 is this....

Can you put a coil on the back?

I'm thinking that if that was possible then i'd put one on for the trip i'm planning this year to the Alps.

 Huh?

You can't on the 08 I'm not sure about the 09. I have been pondering machining my own front linkage bolt with a curve in to so it would fit around the reservoir on spare coil shock but i would need to check as on compresion the coil may impact the seat tube as there is only about 1cm clearence.

Has anyone here ever fitted a 57mm stroke shock to an 08 frame to increase the rear travel?

like Vic-Tim says  its  true do it all bike though it does suprise me at inners and fort bill when i see one fitted with fox 40's or boxxers

I was after something which would handle the rougher side of things while still being light enough to pootle along and up the trails and the Meta 666 seemed to fit the bill nicely with the extra travel over the Meta 5.
I altered the build and fitted some heavier kit (dual + bash,Halo Freedom wheelset, wider bars, shorter stem etc...all in pimpy white Grin ) and I've ended up with the perfect bike for me at around 32lb. I can ride it all day but also hit the local DH track and jumps and drops. While it isn't the best climber in the world (and lets face it,this bike isn't designed for climbing) it's willing enough to make the climbs with the propedal on and my 2 steps shortened down.
In short, it really is the perfect 'AM' rig for me and is exactly what I was after. If it got stolen tomorrow I wouldn't even consider replacing it with a different bike, I love it that much Smiley

Well the 5 is gone and here's my brand spankers 6666666666666666666 Grin!!!!!!

Going to build it up ramorra. Doesn't look like i'll be able to put a coil on for Alps though. Not enough room by the look of it. No doubt it'll take me yonks to work out which angled sleeve is the best one to use for me. Fitting the headset was a doddle. I've got a really good feeling about this bike... Smiley

Ordered a Joplin adjustable seat post. Does anyone have any experienc of these in case i've bought a lemon?

Mcmeta666,
that piccie of the 666 fitted with 40s at Fort Bill looks mental and food for thought.    Undecided

well I built her up. Took me all afternoon though. I thought I was doing something wrong until I read this

http://www.commencalownersclub.com/index.php/topic,643.0.html

Mine is the latest incarnation of cable guide 9 (i.e. even worse than the original) How on earth they think that fixed the problem is anyones guess.

My temp fix is some old SRAM sleeving, as it's quite hard to find a spare Meta 5 cable guide on the average Saturday evening, until a more permanent/appropriate fix can be sourced by the manufacturer.

Yeah, they don't seem to have sorted the problem quite yet.

I use a standard Shimano cable guide, cut it down and stick it under the cable just infront of the fitted cable guide ( the tension of the cable keeps it in place ). This effectively extends the guide by a couple of cm.

It has worked fine for 12 months.

The bike is getting some TLC from the local dealer at the moment, but when I get it back i'll take a couple of shots.

Cheers
