Hi all,

I am looking for a new bike to replace my old one (Giant NRS 100mm rear with RS Reba 100mm, El Camino 160mm brakes, 2.1 tires).
I am very glad with this bike for already 4 years, made a lot of upgrades and improvments but want to taste something new  Smiley

During this time my ride style has change a bit (or maybe a lot) .. Still performing a lot of uphill and long distance tracks sometimes (50-80-100km) in the weekends, but my ride became more aggressive, with more fast downhill sections, more technical trails.

So I started to think about all mountain/enduro bike which still will be good and light enough for climbing and long distances, but will be more strong and fun in downhill sections.

My question to you guys here is whether Meta 5.1 will be good for my purposes?
Is it more DH oriented or it is also good for climbing and XC riding?

I am tall 182cm and my weight is 69kg ..Do you thing if META 5.1 size L will be OK for me?

I have checked and compared its top tube length (which is 594mm for L size)  to other all mountain bikes and
it seems that Meta's top tube is about 1 to 1,5cm shorter then other's bikes. Do you thing Meta still will be good for
XC ridinig?

I am not a racer or XC maniac ...but like to ride long trails, hard uphills and already hard downhills, more stones and technical sections Wink

Thank you very much Smiley

the meta would cope great but perhaps a super4 may be better for the long all day rides (lighter etc)

that's what i was thinking when i was reading the OPs post... the 5's a great bike, but for 100k rides may be a bit portly, perhaps the 4 or super 4 would suit better

Check the weight of that Super 4 - not so lite.

Wait for a Carbon Meta?

Thank you guys,

100km ride usually I ride one or two times per month, but 50-80km is something usual for the weekend.
What do you mean when saying that meta4 will be better? Weight, frame geometry, or smaller suspension?

And what about the uphill performance of Meta 5? Isn't it a little bit short (top tube length),
what is your experience climbing with Meta 5 ...

Thank you in advance Smiley

I think the Meta 5 sounds perfect, it's about as multi-fuctional as they come, climbing is suprisingly bob free and you never feel like it's cramping your skill.

As for the Supers weight, assuming it's anywhere near the quoted 6.3lbs, it's not that heavy. Admittedly a Superlight or Anthem X would be lighter, they both come with much more upright racey geometry. It's respectably light compared to other similar bikes on the market, doing the same thing.

If you wanted to alter the front dynamically then fit an ajustable fork like the Pike and drop it to 120 or something..?

I ride a meta 4 (2007) myself and it is a great bike. So far I found it superb for doing XC. With the Fox RP2 on it will climb good (not great, but thats not what its for) and when I reach the top of the hill going down is where it really shines. It is not that much lighter than a Meta 5 (they share the frame) but the 100mm suspension as opposed to 140 does make it a bit firmer. havent ridden the super 4, but i'm guessing its quite similar to the Meta 4 (just a bit lighter).
Judgeing on what you want to do with it I think the Meta 5 will be just a bit better suited.

I did two 40 mile rides in the summer on my 08 5.5 and it was faultless. This included road, climbing, descents, a boat trip - purbeck ride - I was with a mate on a Santa Cruz superlight 100mm travel. On the steepest climb (front wheel lifting stopped me in the end) I kept going longer than he did.
Cheers,
Christian.
