Look closely at the picture above. To most it looks like just another of the 09 Meta 5 models, but to the typical Commencal Owners Club member, is something so much more.

Look closer. See the unique colour way? Spot the SLX cranks? Are those the new 15mm bolt thru forks? Is that an XT rotor?

Yes, you lovely people.... Announcing the UK spec and aptly titled Meta 5.5.UK. Here she is in all her glory...

Just like last years 5.5.xt the Uk spec'd Meta will be available in very limited numbers, and better still in two colour ways. The first batch due VERY soon will come with the white fork, the next batch due sometime in 09 will have black forks. Meaning whichever you get, it's twice as rare!

Best of all is the price, originally only £2199.99 thanks to the VAT drop it's now set to retail for around £2150. Which when you consider your getting a frame and fork combo that alone retails for close to £1700, that is a hell of a lot of bike for the money.

The full spec can be found here, and also pre-ordered too, alternatively go speak nicely to your local Commencal dealer. Stock is expected to be very thin on the ground so be quick.

Pleasing on the eye that one.

I noticed that the Realcycles website specifies the Chainset as Truvativ Firex 3.3 giga X. You might want to change that.

Realy it should be called a Meta 5.5 SLXT

What is the weight of an medium XT?

Doh again. Will go change the chainset now.

Discount? Surprisingly little. Madison, the UK importer, who have put this one together have cut their own margin on it to the bone to get it out there. like they did with the Maxmax Animal.

Ta. Should be fixed now, finally.

I'm just playing with the spec on my UK. Gonna take off the forks and wheels and flog them, then put on my pimpy XTR/819/Aeroblades and a shiny set of 36 TALAS RC2's.

The brakes will come off too and my trusty old XT's will go on. The SLX chainset will get swopped to my 07 XT's, or maybe some XTR if they'll fit the newer 09 swingarm.

I'll mot likely sswop the bars/stem and post for my carbo jobbies. All in I reckon a 31lb all round monster.

Can't wait.

Agree with Tim S on the colour scheme, that looks pretty cool.

Still, its quite a price hike from last years XT.  Other than the bolt thru fork (which retails for about £60 more than the standard QR) the bike has a lower spec than last years and is (ignoring the VAT saving) £300 more.

It's only really the gearing that has gone down, it's a small amount too, I'm a little puzzled by the X9 derailleur with SLX shifters though?

The old 55 XT was quite easy to get discounted too, so this is realistically like a 15% price hike or something, it's nothing unexected though. The new axle and relaxed geometry seems like it's heading back to how it used to be, shame in my opinion, the 6 had that side of the market sorted. Smiley

Price wise they're still very competitive, the 5.5.3 for example is a similar spec to an orange 5 S but a couple of hunderd quid cheaper.

Picked mine up at the weekend and had a very short ride. Up and down kerbs and a tiny bit of off road in the local park and I've got to say I was impressed! Turns so quickly yet feels real stable. Can't wait to get it on some real trails over xmas!

As for the looks, it's awesome
