Hello guys, I'm from Greece and a proud owner of a meta 5 2007!!! After saving money for a year, I'm in the position of buying a new bike (custom built) and thinking it will be the 2009 Meta 6 frame!!! My goal for 2009 is the Megavalanche and it will be my first time taking part in a race outside Greece! I know the Meta 6 Tech stuff, so my questions have to do with the building of the bike!!!

1st - I will go for Fox 36, but will I need the fixed Float or the travel optioned Talas???

2nd - I know the frame comes with CB Joplin, but will I need it so much??? It's Heavy!!!

3rd - I've seen many guys (almost every one in the Avalanche Trophy Top 10) that use single ring up front!!!
A double-ring/bashguard chainguide or a normal triple-ring setup isn't needed for the Avalanche races
       (espesially the Megavalanche)Huh?Huh?

I'm pretty good at uphills due to many years of XC racing, and think I could handle a 160mm bike with a fixed fork and a 36T single ring on the front, but want your experience before buying anything!!! Again my goal is the 2009 Megavalanche, so will I nead a travel adjust fork, T.adjust seatpost and double ring, or a fixed fork and single ring will do their job for the uphills of that race Huh? Because I want to keep the weight down as posible.....thanx alot guys!!!

I only drop my lyrik's down to 115mm to fit the bike in the back of a car, all other times there at full 160mm and ride up hill no problem with them at that height.

As for crankset i use 2 ring Saint (36T-22T) and bash, I used a 3 ring XT crankset for awhile and found the big ring just ground out very easily and died a quick death as a result

You Def need the adjustable seat post for the Mega, the more height adjustment the better.

I was using a 100mm adjustable post but it wasn't low enough when 'paddling' across some sections of snow and the 'crown jewels' got a bit of a rattling  Shocked

I've found the Floats to be a much nicer fork than the Talas. Both superb, just Floats are better imo.

Hello,

The 2009 talas are supposed to be smoother and more reliable this year after a redesign from what I have read, although I think everyone thought the previous models were good. Has anyone here got the new talas 09's ?

I have just ordered a pair of talas r 36's, looking forward to trying them  Grin

i have a fox 36 talas on my meta 6 and think it is crap,i have had it custom tuned and it is still bad.i am 15 stone and have to put in a lot of air pressure  and to compensate have to turn rebound almost full clockwis, thes forks dive through travel quite easy and sit in the middle of travel.never tried float but thinking of changing mine to lyrik coil

LYRIC Coil U-Turn every time!

I owned a bike shop for 6 years, and tried all forks, these have been far the best forks I have ridden! and most reliable!

Control, grip and confidence on front is 100%

GET LYRICS!

I run mine on 130 for trails, only knock them up to 160 if it gets real rough. (used to riding IH sunday and low front)

I have the joplin on my 5.5 and highly recommend it. Worth the weight penalty. Like most people say, you will wonder how you did without it. Bought mine on ebay from a guy in New York - £140 ish inc shipping for remote.
