Here it is....

Commencal 08 Medium Meta 666 Frameset ( with Fox RP23 )
Full XT 08 Groupset
•   XT cranks 175mm
•   XT Front Mech
•   XT Reach Mech (Shadow short cage)
•   XTR Chain
•   XT Cassette 11-32
•   XT Shifters
•   XT Brake Levers
•   XT Callipers (post mount)
•   XT 180mm Rotors
DT 540 Enduro Wheelset
Manitou Nixon Instrinsic 160mm
Chris King Headset
Thomson X4 Stem
Un-branded Carbon Bar
ODI Ruffian Lock-ons
Charge Seat
Thomson Post
e13 DRS Chain guide ( with Supercharger )
WTB Timberwolf 2.35

This build would not have been possible without the main man Rus at Commencal UK ( Madison ).

Good for a 1st build, but will swap out the forks and hubs early next year for something a bit more heavy duty. Also the DRS needs some modification for tyre clearance ( but dont all chain guides! )

Don't ask about the weight, I don't have any scales...but it is light.

And no comments on the brown seat, I think it looks awesome!!

First ride tomorrow morning at Delamere or Cannock Chase

There does seem to be a 50:50 split on the seat colour at the moment....  Grin

I'd be interested how you get on with the Halo Freedom discs on your Furious. What hub did you lace them to?

Rear is laced onto a Sun Ringle Jumping Flea, as supplied with the frame, although I may have to build a spare onto a Abbah Lawhill, as the Jumping Flea is just far to quiet!
The front, which isn't on the bike yet as it's still awaiting a tubeless kit and 20mm spacers, is on a Halo Spin doctor hub.

Hi Tim,

very nice bike Cheesy. I hope it will serve you well. The brown saddle is nice, but it will look better if you will match its color it with some other parts, like grips , pedals, etc.

BTW, how do you like the Manitou Nixon? Are you happy with the damping? Any thoughts on the 2008 Manitou offer? The weights of their new forks are crazy light.

Happy trails,
Adrian

The Nixon's I have are I guess 'pre-production' 07 versions, so not quite what you would find in the shops. I'll keep them on there for the winter but in the spring I'll be swapping them out for either some Marzocchi or Fox with 20mm bolt thru ( which means new hubs front and back ).

After riding it yesterday it is clear the back end is designed for a bolt thru too....it's still sweet, but it could ( and will ) be sweeter!

Little update, swapped out the Timberwolf tyres after one ride for a set of 2.35 Super Tacky High Rollers. ( the Timberwolfs were just a little two wide and nobbly for my liking )

Off to ride with the Athertons tomorrow, should be a good test for the bike! ( and me! )

Tim

p.s. if none of my riding buddies fancy these Timberwolfs, i'll have them on ebay or drop me a mail if you want them for a bargainous price!

Sweet looking bike mate, its what im seriously considering. Im stuck between the Meta 5.5 and this at the mo but I reckon the 666 will win. What size did you go for? BTW the chase is my local weekend ride too, have you had it on the downhill course there?

I went for the medium as it is a good 'bossable' size for me ( 5'10", 32" inseam, 80kg ).

I did all the secret cheeky stuff at Cannock as I was with a local, so that prob included the downhill sections! Certainly enjoyed the monkey trail bit which will be linked in next year.

If you want to check out the 666 I ride mostly in North Wales, so let me know if you are ever around that way ( as I know there are not that many demos around )

Cheers for the offer Tim,

As it happens I was passing Merlin Cycles in Leyland this morning so I decided to call in and check out their 08 Meta stock and low and behold they had one 666 frame left in stock and it was medium (we are about the same size so I figured that would be the right size frame for me). They reckoned this would be the last one they would have until early next year so I handed the man a piece of plastic and he boxed the frame up for me. Grin  Cool
It sure is a great looking frame and feels well light in the hand, they had no 5.5 frames so I couldnt compare like for like but im not too bothered about weight. It will probably take me a while to get the rest of the bits together, ill probably go for a similar builld to you with a 08 XT group but not sure on the forks yet. Cant wait to unleash it on the chase.

See ya on the trails

In case anyone is having trouble getting 666 frames, i've plenty in stock. I took in a lot when they came in last month.

Woohoo another custom 666 build! ( thought that does mean there will be more than one on the trails...not sure how I feel about that? he he )

one thing I would say is make doubley sure you go for some 160mm forks with 20mm bolt thru..also go bolt thru on the rear end. It is a stiff frame, but is definately designed around having bolt thrus ( and not the QR I have built it up with ).

Go slack on the adjustable headset too.

I'm swapping out the forks as soon as I have some spare cash and I think I have settled on a pair of 55's.

And you cant go wrong with 08 XT. Having had the X0 Spam stuff on a MiniDH I can definately tell you that XT is far superior in terms of shifting, weight and strength. ( The brakes are also far better than Formula Oro Biancos )

Post back the build when you get there!

Nice one Tim,

I have been checking out the Marzzochi 55s an I reckon as a compromise on weight, adjustability and price they will be top of my list. Bolt through hubs will be going on there front and rear too, because I can now Grin

I reckon it will be after christmas before its done but ill keep you posted and you can bet your life ill be back asking for more advice.

For now though im just gonna go and stare at it for a few hours, its a peach.
