I think you may be right rugbyred, last I heard he had it sorted and was on course for a replacement frame, personally though I would still be concerned at the quality if I had managed to snap a carbon fibre chainstay completely in two by riding canal towpath type rides. Goes to prove though any bike could brake at any time and Commies are no more subseptable than any other make.
it's prob not like the frame broke from an impact during that ride, but from fatigue over time. The lucky part is that it snapped in a none hazardous spot (from what i gather). Frames brake -it's a part of life. Build quality is not always on par with the price, not that i know from experience anything about giants build quality.
The other day my frame had me a bit worried. It's a carbon scott ransom. It was quite cold outside and there seemed to be very much creaking coming from the frame, something that had me worried as it was moderately cold (7 degrees below freezing (celcius)). I was thinking "man, c an't the carbon frame take the cold?". Turns out it was just the gooey guey tires through very small rocks up on the downtube... i felt a bit stupid when i turned off the music and found out that that was the reason behind my worries.
concerning carbon frames, i'm really quite excited about the carbon metas due over christmas. I have absolutely no lpans what so ever of replacing my ransom, but a carbon meta might very well be my replacement frame when that time comes around. I do not believe commencals are prone to snapping, not more so than any other bike. It is nice though that they step up on the materials they use though. Good call there commie, good call.
