Commencal build quality

Hi
I've been looking for a new bike for 09 and the geo on the supreme dh 09 seems spot on but I've heard mixed things about the quality of the frames. Most ppl are very happy but some warned me there were cracking problems. Was it just a bad batch or is it a longer problem.
Also any1 has tried supreme dh with 07 888s?

I dunno about the quality of the 09 frames as so few people have actually got one, and those that have would of only owned it for a couple of months anyhow so probably wouldnt be able to make a judgement , I have not heard any thing bad about them yet my self.

It's not so much build quality, that's always been pretty good, it;s the fact that the present designs are still very very young, and they've exploded onto the scene, so there is a lot of product out there that has not had the luxury of years of R&D.
Each year issues are dealt with and the new generation is better. in 08 there was little in the way of known issues, just the odd break here and there, so things are defo improving.
Also in 09 Commencal finally stopped trying to make their frames lightweight and accepted that everyone rides their Commies hard, so they've overbuilt them, a lot compared to previous years. Even the DH!

Very few Commencal's have problems with cracking. No more than any other brand. You will always get the odd one or two that will have warranty issues but not many at all. I had a 2005 Supreme DH and battered it to bits for a couple of years with no issues what so ever. I've also had 3 meta 5.5's.

And what about previous year models? How's the quality on them?

What's the weight differance between 08 and 09 dh model?

09 is about .25lb lighter. But that's based on a 09 6.2 frame with standard rear shock and the 09 VIP frame with the much bigger shock in it, so I suspect the new one could be as much as half a pound lighter.
But still, on a 10lb frame, half a pound ain't gonna make much difference.

So If they stop making they lightweight and started burly why they are lighter?

LOL, oxymoron or what!
It's a new frame design so it's unfair to compare to the new one in the "heavier but stronger" stakes. It's lighter but it's a new design, which is not as over built in some areas and over built in others.
The "stopped making them lightweight" comment was really aimed at the Meta 5 and 666.

I'm was just wondering as I'm looking for a perfect bike for more than 1 season. Thinking this, morewood or nicolai(yeah I know they're ugly
). The supreme got great reviews the rest is unknown for now but the custom geo on nicky temps me. Damn hard choices.

You'll hear about every frame that cracks.
You won't hear about the thousands that don't
Hammered my (08) 666 so far and took the opportunity to check for cracks while it was in bits today. None I'm glad to report

If you look for a DH frame, you have to look for a 09 modell, because the older ones will definetely break. I rode the 07 Dh frame that cracked after one year. Get an 08 and that one cracked this year. No big drops or hucking, just ride it the way its called "DH". Things can only get better, but even a small company should stand behind their products and behind their quality problems. They should say " Ok we are not very long in this business, we had our frame problems but we stand behind our products we sorted this out and everybody who buy a Commencal could ride it without looking for cracks after every ride.
They want to play the big business game (frame prices - riders) but can´t handle it.

That's what I've heard. But I'm having hard time risking putting money in a frame that still has a high chance of cracking. Damn I love the geo but the cracks kill me.

I've noticed that the Absolut VIP 4x has put on a little weight for 2009, from 3.9 to 4.2, I'm not really a hard rider but that extra beef would give me a bit more confidence, for the mega financial outlay and the safety. Still impressive, the earlier ones have had a good battering by riders.
This mega 'Nuts' Alloy, whats it all about, whats so good about it?

I have just bought an 09 dh, and I am lucky not to have the worries of previous bikes as I have never heard of them cracking. Sure, EVERY manufacturer has had busted frames, but sometimes your unlucky, or a hard core mo fo! But, thats what a warranty is for! I hear commencal are pretty good with their customers.... So no worries from me.
Oh, and your right, the geo is lush!!!!
