project 666 has finally started Smiley

so far it looks like this...

08 666 vip frame
09 fox 36 vanilla r forks
thomson stem and easton monkey bars
en521 rims/dt comp spokes/hope pro2 hubs (20mm bolt front/12mm bolt rear)/2.5 single ply highrollers

i've also got a charge spoon saddle and xt front mech to fit

got a few more bits on the way too, a thomson post, slx rear mech and shifters, some lizard skins northshore grips and flakjacket gear cables

i'm v v v excited Smiley

not sure how i'm going to finish the build yet, so what do you think?

i quite like the look of the slx cranks?

what about brakes?

your suggestions would be most appreciated, might be a while before it gets finished but there's no harm in planning right!?  Grin

Run a full length rear gear cable, the shifting is crap otherwise. You need some of the M-Part cable holders that clamp to the normal cable guides - http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/Models.aspx?ModelID=28123.

Also the front cable routing is pants too as the inner cable rubs on the frame due to the hydra formed bend near the BB, run a full length of the inner cable tubing from the cable stop, through the BB cable guide to just short of the Fr mech to mitigate - details here;
http://www.commencalownersclub.com/index.php/topic,643.0.html

I can recommend Hayes Stroker Trail brakes, especially the white ones, they really go with the farme.

Don't let the GF find you with the bike against that nice clean sofa  Wink

Doesn't need full length rear gear cable does he, if he's got Flak Jackets coming...

Charge Spoon in white perhaps?
I've found mine just a little less comfortable than the SDG Bel Air RL it replaced.

Hope BB to match the hubs?

I highly recomend a double and bash crankset, I ran a 3 ring crankset for a number of mounths and lost count of the amount of times the big ring ground out. The SLX/Saint double and bash are good because they have a 36T ring which limits the loss of the big ring pretty well

There was no question about it for me....Stroker Trails in white simply had to go on there Wink

We'll just agree to disagree, 'coz I have tried both and think the full length outer is smoother shifting, but you obviously think differently Wink

thanks for the comments so far guys Smiley

so you reckon definitely full outers for the gear cables, or flak jackets. we're all sort of in agreement there then, and that the cable routings a bit pants. cheers for the heads up.

i'd not looked at hayes brakes, but you all seem to rate them... are they that good? i've been using juicies for the last 4 years or so, and no major problems, is it time for a change?

the charge spoon that's going on is actually black (sorry to disappoint lol) i'm not trying to out white you all, and i quite liked my last bike just having the frame white and most of the other bits in contrast to it

double and bash is a definite, there's no way i'm going back to a triple setup, and certainly not on this bike. the slx cranks are looking more and more appealing, my budget doesn't stretch to saints (and i think they'd be overkill). i might get a hope bb when the original one wears out.

as for the bike against the sofa Smiley lol i've a very understanding gf... she has to be or her bikes don't get fixed Cheesy

As Bippa says, we all agree that the routing is pants.  I've no experience with flak jackets but have mudlovers on my 5.5 and they're great.  Very light action.  Better than when it was new.  My old Genius had full length outers on the rear and they were 'OK'.

Stick some Middleburn cable oilers on and you'll have super smooth shifting for years.

http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/Models.aspx?ModelID=3318

I run them on both full outers and the standard interupted set-up on the Meta and shifting is always smooth and crisp.  Just stick some WD40 through the cables every time you wash the bike. 2 minutes, job done.

Tbh I wanted them more for the colour Embarrassed
But..I've yet to see a bad review. I had a few niggles with mine at first but it was just a case of me getting used to them (and giving them a good bleed - slightly different technique to the HFX 9s I was used to. Didn't help I was only supplied with HFX 9 instructions).

I run a 203F/180R and the power on the front is incredible.
Some people say they feel a bit wooden, but compared to HFX 9s they have excellent modulation and I think they're better than my XTs in that area.
They can sometimes make a funny noise when wet (not so much a howl as a burble/warble) but the power is still there regardless. On the fly lever reach adjust can come in handy and the lever itself I find really comfortable and my finger sits in the sweet spot naturally.
The other thing I like is that there's no pins and H springs etc in the pad area, just slot in and pull out with no faff.
Sintered pads in mine ATM, and they're very hard wearing. Had the same set in since March and only now do I have to change a pair...and that's only because I got DOT 4 on them. Doh! Embarrassed
Haven't tested this myself but according to the mags they're hard to boil so well suited for jaunts to the Alps and suchlike.

To sum up, I kinda like them Wink

g'day mate
I'm more than happy with formula brakes and the 2009 K24's in white fit the bill

http://www.commencalownersclub.com/index.php?topic=1079.0
After reading this I ran out bought a Roco 3PL 200x50 for my meta 6.
I was pretty happy with the Fox RP2 on my 2007 meta 5
But I didn't like the Fox RP2 on the meta 6, seamed to bottom out to easy.

Pretty much the day my 3PL arrived I read this next thread and found the guy was right about the true stroke length.
http://www.commencalownersclub.com/index.php/topic,2111.msg14012.html#msg14012

Something for you to think about anyway.

what size rotors are you all running?

merlin have a cracking deal on some strokers, but 200 mm rotors sound huuuge (and 160 mm a bit too small)
