Hello

I'm a happy 08 5.5 owner, but intrigued by the geometry changes for 2009: I think they may have built my perfect bike...  I'm 5'11", normal proportions and riding a medium 2008 frame.  It's about a perfect do-it-all one bike solution for all day riding, the usual short black runs or all day rides around the lakes.

It's a great bike already, but I've always felt the wheelbase was a touch short, and that I would have prefered a slightly longer toptube for those climbs where the front wonders around just a little too much (I ride with a 100mm, 10 deg stem).  There's also as much seatpost showing as I'm comfortable with, and wouldn't want any shorter seat-tube.  Ideally, I'd like a longer TT and a slightly shorter stem.

Look at the changes below, comparing 2008 medium and 2009 large:
Top tube:  572  593
Seat tube:  450  475
Wheelbase:  1105  1131
Head tube:  110  135  (about the same when allowing for the semi integrated design)
Head angle:  68.5  68
Seat angle:  69  68.5

I probably wish they'd increased the seat tube angle a touch, rather than slacken - and I'd have preferred .5kg off the frame weight, but hey...

Two questions:
1.  Does anyone have a picture of the 09 frame in large (the 08 large looked massive - and that put me off; clearly a bit of a tart, I know)?
2.  Also, can anyone confirm the frame only option now takes a 30.9 post (a great reason to change alone, for me anyway)?

Thanks all

Muff.

Alright,

I'm in a very similar boat!  I'm a shade under 6 foot and riding a '08 medium. The top tube was just too high on the '08 large for the riding I do.  I run a 90mm stem and fancied getting it down to a 70mm.  The new large would give me the longer top tube and lower (than 08) seat collar.

I don't have the details but believe the frame comes with a Thomson post. If it's 30.9, I'd sell the Thomson and fit a height adjustable one. The longer top tube, slacker head angle and an adjustable post would make a great bike better for me!

Yep the new Meta's come with the Thompson seatpost and if you go for a large it's 30.9. You also get a free headset. I've just built myself a 09 Meta 5.5 VIP so first ride tomorrow. We have all sizes in stock.  Smiley

Excellent.  If you want to post a pic of the bike built up, that would be great.

I run the medium with a layback Thomson post (which has quite an offset) - I guess moving to a Joplin will keep the cockpit about the same length, but given the bike a bit more stability on the way up, as well as down.  Really, it could be about perfect...

Plus, going from an offset post to a straight one would compensate for the seat angle being slackend (is that an actual word?).

That's true, infact, it'll effectively steepen it.  I'll be having a difficult conversation with the missus over this sometime very soon...

Oh, and it is a word, you just missed out another 'e' before the 'd'... ;-)
