Unfortunately you can't compare snowboards with bikes  Sad

All airlines agree to fly snowboards and skis as it is a significant part of their winter business. The same goes for golf clubs.

However, bikes, surfboards, kayaks and anything else fall outside the 'norm' and pretty much always incur an extra charge ( unless you are a significantly skilled blagger....I once had some BBC Branded Box tape and that got me through many an airport problem! )

Worth checking with your airline though, easyjet have been pretty good flying bikes out to Europe, but times they are a changing ( just look at the problems flying with surfboards and BA )... be prepared for lots of huffing and puffing!

sorted,

emirates skycargo - they have an accurate calculator tool for size - a bike will be 0.3 cubic metres and about 15kg once you have removed wheels , seat and bars and packed nicely together in a box with padding etc.

they will ship for about 160 quid each way with 1 week storage at the other end. so i can send it before i go and get sorted out before i have to pick it up Cool

so now we know  Smiley

cheers for advice anyway guys - just got to get myself there now.

CHEERS IAIN,

i think you are right - wolfies cycles i think and the other one i saw on the net - cant remember.

hey lucky you getting field trips like that - i left my previous office as they never let me out of sight of a cad machine - never mind anywhere else. thats why im heading abroad again.

i think you are right about traffic - i had the same issues in kl malaysia, it was a nightmare til they got the LRT  / metro  running - i ditched using the motor for work at that point and used them. even moved apartment next to a station for practicality.

see how it goes in coming weeks for developments on the job front.

cheers

IAIN,

Yes i can imagine - these biz trips to exotic locales are not all they are cracked up to be. most hotel bars if you have time to pay a visit are pretty crap - but hey ho. im sure on a longer trip you could have a day off - cunning plan is to try and arrange meeting for last day of week and then blag the ticket home a day later than necessary - dream on as if most companys would have that imagination.

I cant wait to see dubai - or wherever i end up. - should be good.

all abit up in air at the mo tho. right now chilling my boots til xmas.

cheers
