Hi everyone,

I'm thinking of buying some new forks for my mini dh and have narrowed it down to the Fox van r or the Rockshox Lyrik coil.

Any opinions to which is better, pro's or con's of each fork would be great.

I have found 08 versions of each for about £500 so I can't split them even on price!

Thanks.

Buy both, pull them both apart, decide for yourself which one you'd rather put your faith into. Re-assemble and sell the one with the plastic internals.

If that's not really an option then just buy the Fox's ;-)

Hi,
how bout a set of domains? or better yet a set of totems?(if ure frame is over 2years old u dont have to worry bout the warranty)

I have found Totems for about £500 also but thought they may be a bit much for the bike. I mainly ride trail centres (dalby, glentress) and some downhill like (wharncliffe, hamsterley) Would totems fit the bill for this? they do look good!

Cheers.

Rob.

I run lyriks on my mini DH, and it's perfect. (Although the solo air version).

run with the slackest setting on the headtube, and you're away.

My mini dh is the 6.3 without the adjustable headangle, does that mean I'd be better off with the longer totem to slacken the head angle?
I think mine is fixed at 67 degrees.
SteveB may be able to confirm this!

hmm maybe, but without the adjustable headangle it will throw the handling slightly,it will make ure bike slightly less responsive throught the tight technical sections but more manageable on steep or fast descents  Cheesy. i am hoping to slap on a set of totems after the year,so i hope they suit  Wink  i will be checking the axle to crown measurement on them soon,to see how much it differs to my current stock marz 66's. i will let you know when i measure them what the diff is,if any!
or maybe craggle can tell us what the a2c measurement is on the totems? (im sure he had a mini dh with them on it)

a2c length of fox 36 and lyrik is 545mm

a2c length of totem is 565mm

If I run a totem with a touch more sag I suppose it would be about the same as the 36's or the lyrik.

Maybe a totem then!!

it really comes down to how u want the bilke to handle/feel? do u want a nimble 6" rigg capable of razzing down some dh now and again,or do u want it to be more of a frequent visitor to the dh trails, therefore want a more capable machine that can also be hucked off some decent drops? if u are swaying to the 1st option there then im guessing lyrics or domains should be on the cards, but if  u are leaning more towards the latter there(like me  Wink ) then the totems should def be on ure shortlist!

Had fox 36's on my hardtail for the last 2 n a bit years and cant fult them. Cant speak for the Lyrics with never bouncing on a pair but had boxxers for years and wouldnt be in a hurry to go back to them. Just my personal opinion is that fox and mazzocchi are plusher.

I really cannot recommend Totems enough - slightly slacker headangle not very noticeable tbh, weight difference (if there is any) not noticeable at all.  Absolutely superb.

I would caveat this with saying I don't ride it uphill :-)

Or add in 1 all travel spacer in the internals, that means dropping the travel to 165mm from 180mm.

And yes, as i've got the adjustable head angle, my head tube is 1 degree more slack than yours as i've got the +/-1deg sleeve in.

Well, i've only ever ran my mini at the slackest setting, as that was what it was at from the place i got the frame from.

1 degree makes a lot of difference though, slower to turn, but more stable at speed. I love going fast Smiley.
