After taking part in a gruelling 51k xc event today on my meta 4 i was wondering how much difference upgrading to the super4 would make.  Has anyone any links to reviews of this bike as i hear it's meant to have lost some weight over the meta4 and maybe it would be worth the considering.

Any info would be appreciated.

We have some info on our news page www.bikeactive.com. It is a completely different bike and is aimed at being a bit more 'race' than the Meta 4. They also wanted to distance it from the Meta 5.5. It looks awesome in the flesh.

If your in the market for a new bike, and like the Meta4 handling, then seriously look at the Super4. If your looking at the super4, or any bike for that matter, to improve your performance in XC events, forgot a new bike, honestly, a few pounds saved on a new lighter bike will really make no difference whatsoever to your overall performance.

On the first few rides the new bike (be it a S4 or other) will feel soo much better and you'll convince yourself that in the next event you'll do so much better, but come that event, unless your genuinely riding at national level, you'll feel no real difference.

Most riders refuse to accept it, but really, bike weight, within reason, makes little difference in the real world.

Riding more helps, hitting the gym and building up some muscle bulk will do wonders and finding the biggest hill you've ever seen and riding up and down, and up and down, and up and down, over and over again will do more for your XC event performance than spending a few grand and saving a pound or two on your bike ever will. And it's cheaper and more fun than too!

Em steve,im sorry man but i fail to see where the fun would be in riding up and down up and down up and down a huge hill? yeah the DOWN bit would be fun,but u would be so tired it would just be a coast, lol.  Grin  im prob the laziest biker around (well maybe not that much, but i aint the fittest either, lol) for getting off and pushing when i hit any uphill sections. i know that i totally should drag my lazy ass up it aboard my bike, but i just cant do it captain! lol  Roll Eyes

Hi Iain,  Did you find that nice bit of singletrack just down the drive from the top car park?
It's wonderful in spring when the bluebells are out.

And have the tracks dried out yet ?  Smiley

Cheers for the info Iain. We're into downhill and trail so we could make a weekend of it and bring both bikes!

Right...ok i have a confession to make!! i went out today (in the perfect riding weather) and rode UP a hill on my mini dh!!  Shocked
It was a beast aswell,i went out biking with my mate who is a bit of a fitness boy(likes the gym and running etc) he is a bit like the Duracell bunny, lol. and so i never got away with my usual push up to spooky woods,he is worse than my rugby coach...wouldnt let me slow down, wouldnt let me stop for a breather, wouldnt let me get off and push and that was just on the 4km (steep) climb to the start of the epc descent that is Spooky woods (3.5km of freeride heaven!) and to top it off he wouldnt even let me have a break halfway down(i normally stop just before the line of bigger jumps start so i can refresh and attack them full on,they are so smooth when u clear them all!) cos he was timing us so we had a benchmark time to train against, lol.
And to say i was knackered was an understatement, but i have to say i didnt enjoy doing the climb but i felt great afterwards when we hit the bottom car park, the feeling of having made a good effort to improve my fitness was top notch and i still wouldnt go as far as saying i enjoy going up hills...but im loving the feeling of accomplishment afterwards!  (oh and just a wee point,i have done the climbs before, but it was always on my 24seven hardtail,i had NEVER yet attempted it on my mini DH   Grin
Think over the winter i will be putting in the miles on the fireroads and stuff on my absolut, that is a bit easier to go uphill on,lol.

Cheers for all the advise guys.  Your probably right, i SHOULD stick with the bike and work on the fitness.  Then again, those 09 models do look so tempting.  Blasted slick advertising campaigns!
