The peak park website has details of work to be carried out on Byways that have been erroded by MX bikes. Also there is a new crackdown on illegal use of Byways / Boats in the peaks at the moment. With regards to future work I posted this on another website.
"I bumped into Bruce from Ride the Peak / Moors the future. He confirmed that screeming mile is only closed as they are forwarding felled trees from that track for the next month or so. That BRIDLEWAY is not on the list of ones to have worked done. The only routes that are being worked on are BOATS, that is Byways that have suffered from massive errosion due to MX bikes. The list was on the Peak park website. Its important to differentiate between bridleways and Boats regarding this work. But DONT WORRY ! Ride the Peak will have there input on any work that is done to bridleways in the Peak park from now on, even the rights of way officer for Peak park, Mike Rhodes, also is a MTB Rider.
More info at
http://www.ridethepeak.com/ Where they will be a news item about this soon
AND,
http://www.moorsforthefuture.org.uk/mftf/main/Home.htmBTW, Bruce informed me that the reason the track from A57 (just down from Hagg farm) was cinderconed was that it was done by Highways agency purely for access to the bridge that had collapsed over the head of the Ladybower reserviour. THey needed to get machines down there so it was contstructed for heavy plant.
With regards to future work in the Peak, there is no need to worry, Mountain bike riders are now very well represented.
Hope that helps clear things up."
