I have been looking for a Meta 666, and found a good deal on this frame at Merlin Cycles, so I decided to go for a import from them (I live in Norway). Received the frame after some days and everything looked perfect, until I noticed a deformed dropout. I have a Supreme 6 (05mod), which has the same kind of dropout so I thought this wasn't a big issue(have several in spare), but the new dropout would not fit. Also tried the 12mm thru axl dropout, but same problem there. So it seems like the rear end of the frame has been bended... :-( (see attached pictures)
Sent a mail to Merlin now, hopefully they have a quick solution for this... I want to ride now! :-)

This is clearly a warranty issue, but I guess it is difficult to get help from the norwegian reseller as the frame was bought from Merlin in UK...

That is a strange one, and it is fresh out of the box?

Keep on at Merlin, they should be able to sort you out.

Thanks for the reply.
Yes this is straight out of the box, so I guess I have just been extremly unlucky... Either the frame has been damaged under freight (no signs of damage on the package) or the frame has been packed from Commencal with the damage.
Hopefully Merlin can sort this out quick.

Can you not just file a bit off the the drop out to make a new hanger fit? Seems perfectly doable and would be a way quicker and simpler fix.

And I'd say the damage happened in Norway customs. To be it blunt they are bastards. The box will most likely have been opened and the goods inspected. I'm impressed it even got to you, I've stopped sending to Norway now as more gets lost/damaged in transit than arrives safely.

Thanks for the advice Steve, I might try that, just hope the frame is not weakend (painting at the rear end behind the dropout has "cracked" because of the bending, attcahed a picture of this).

And agree with you Steve, it might have happend in customs yes, have spoken with a local bikeshop here and they have the same experiences as you.

My Meta was exactly the same as that out of the box and the shop I bought it from had 3 others from the same delivery batch with bent dropouts.

With all due respect, Steve, I don't think this is how customs are organized. Don't blame customs, blame DHL, UPS or whoever f**ked up. What company did you use for sending to Norway? It's not like every parcel that enters Norway goes through the same customs office. DHL, UPS and the like handles this themselves, and the "customs part" of it is done electronically by scanning the import papers and calculating the import duty. I've only had a package opened once for inspection, and that was because the sender failed to fill out all the forms correctly.

Well, fair enough. All I know is that i use the same carrier for all my international stuff and i've only had problems in Norway. A bike is presently held up there, I'm being told the customs office has 2 week backlog!

Be it my carriers having problems there, or be it the actual customs staff on the ground the reality is Norway has a problem, staffing or procedural. And I'm not the only one, everyone I know experiences similar problems.

Are you using Parcelforce, Steve?

Oh, and for the bent dropout, I would contact Merlin about this. They probably have a standard procedure for dealing with goods being damaged during transportation. Merlin send things to Norway with Parcelforce, meaning it's handed over to GLS when it leaves Britain, and over to Posten (Norway Post, equivalent to Royal Mail) here in Norway. You should also report this to your local post office.

You are correct about the delivery Tron, Parcelforce (aka. Parcelfarce yes Steve ;-) ) in UK, GLS in Denmark, and Posten/NorCargo in Norway. It didn't look like the package has been opened, so in this case the customs may not be "devil".

Clearly warranty issue, but sometimes it is easyer, if you just get over it. New drop out costs 25€ + delivery according to Commencals own shop. http://shop.commencal.com/product_info.php?cPath=47&products_id=219
Your local dealer should have these is stock - and better to buy 2 staright away.

If you read the post again you will see that the drop out isn't really the problem here (as I have written earlier I have several in spare...), it just does not fit because of the damage at the end of the frame(take a look at the pictures..)
I wish it was just a damaged drop out, and if that was the case I would never bother about it...

I have difficulties to find out, where the frame have bended, but if your spare dropout don't fit, you are right.

I had the same problem with my meta last year.
I sent pictures of it to the Norwegian importer, they talked to commencal and I ended up with a new rear frame.
It took a while but it was worth it.
