Hey, nothing to do with wood chucks chucking wood.

Rather I've found a small stretch of downhill/single track potential in a strip of woodland. I'm currently trying to find out who or what authority owns the woods. Would you recommend doing it the legal route? Or just do it and hope no one finds it (and destroys it).

I'd like to build a little (6metres) northshore leading into a drop, although i read online if you're asking for permission through the forestry ppl, don't mention northshore as its a man-made structure.

This wooded area doesn't tend to have many people walking around in it (no paths). Only one guy i've come across who walks his dog there regularly.

To build or not to build?
Also what would be a good way to get ahold of some 2x4 wood cheaply?

I couldn't possibly suggest that you build without the proper permission.........but.....  Grin

I know that the Forestry Commission have done some very good work but in Delamere forest they've been a nightmare. As the building of an official DH course progressed they changed their minds repeatedly about what could be done (after agreeing the design initially) and when it was about 3 quarters done they pulled the plug completely and said it couldn't be finished. Finally they bulldosed the second half of the course due to 'unauthorised construction' (although nobody actually knows what this was!).

Just build what you want and ride it, ignorance is bliss.  Fact is no one is going to build it for you, and if you ask questions about it you will probably draw a negative response.  Just keep it subtle and see how it goes, if no one notices work on it further... would be shame to go all out at the start and find it torn down... but then again can always be rebuilt Smiley

One way to eliminate the major organisations (FC, Woodland Trust & National Trust), is by looking at an orange (explorer?) ordnance survey map of the wood. If it's owned by one of them, it'll be marked on the map.

But if it's a small area, it's more likely to be owned by a local landowner. Easiest way to find out, is by asking the local farmers.

As for wether to build with or without permission, that would depend on who's likely to find it.

Sounds like I'll just build it. Its only a small run anyways.

Anyone know a good way to get ahold of cheap 2x4 for building some northshore rather than going to a timber munger and spending a £££.
