Hi
I'm keen on your opinion, Do i run the Meta 5.5.2 as standard for as long as possible and upgrade bits as they wear out or is there anything on it that needs to be 'skipped' straight away?
I have been riding a Marin and was amazed that having spent nearly two grand on a bike the seatclamp does not hold the post and the headset and bottom bracket were made out of cheese! What's the first things i should expexct to have to spend money on?

Dick,
I think it depends on your budget. If you have one, then ride your bike until things break. If you don't have one, can I please borrow some money.
As for parts that will wear quickly, they are probably going to be the same as your Marin (headset & bottom bracket).
Good luck and let me know when you need my address to send the cheque.

Thanks for that, if i had a pot of cash i'd go for Rockshox pike 456 and a new set of wheels. But that's bucks.
I'm thinking of changing the chainset for XT from the off. What about that seat clamp? any other views???

Agree with iain1775 that QRs are rubbish (they work loose), not had a problem with my seatpost QR (touch wood) I changed the bars, as stock showed a bit of flex (but I'm a big guy so you may not see any diff) You will need to change the tyres as the Maxxis grip will disappear v quickly. If I could change anything it would be the brakes, they just don't have the same feel as my old Shimano LX Hydro and I'm not that keen on the levers. Also, you will see loads of threads on brake rub and squeal on 552s. Apart from that, i would just change things as they go wrong...awesome bike regardless

Nice one thanks for that, I'll swap the wheel QR's straight off, don't much fancy my wheels overtaking me! and go from there, The bars on my hardtail are too wide so a swap may benefit both bikes and at no cost!

Cheers

I got some £4 standard Shimano QRs for the wheels from my LBS, loads better than the standard Commie ones. Not had any issues with the seat clamp....yet.

I did have a Hope QR Seat clamp go bang on me on my other bike after about 6 months, changed on warranty, but still a bit worrying.

If the bars are too long, get the hacksaw out, or the pipe cutters. CUT EM DAHHHN!!!
