hi all,

is it just me or do all the bikes that do not comply to white vip and/or mini dh category engender some sort of  stigma.

i refer to 'my new xt' or 'meta 55 xt custom look' response in 'owners bikes' - my word . i had a few good comments then some twat called iain1775 comes along and ridicules anyone who bothers to string a few coordinated bits together on their bike?

whats that about iain1775 - i didnt see or hear alex ferguson saying - hes just the substitute get him on the pitch even if he is wearing his old mans pants.

or enzo ferrari- 'its just driving - who cares if its rusty and looks like shite?'

or wellington at waterloo - blues ok - no one will notice (that is until our own artillery blew the poor sods to smithereeens on the grounds that they were wearing the wrong uniform?)

sorry  pal - 'its only mountain biking' and the  slur against changing rooms is just not on! llb is my f'''ing hero
and i will match my colours on my bike from this day and every day onwards.

cheers
ian Cool

Ian,

When you post pics of your bike looking for compliments, you will end up with people who don't like the same things as you and will say so.
You may want to get some thicker skin if you are going to post more photos.
As for myself, I was told if I don't have anything nice to say, don't say it.

HI RUGBYRED,
100% agree with that thought there.

I was just posting my bike pics up - not fishing for compliments- however blatant gay/homosexual references from an obviously jealous bloke is not what i had in mind. Grin

and my point is not about the look of my bike - its about colour matching! iain1775 seems to think its a sin or something?

never mind.

how are you anyways. you seem a very level headed and sobre chap. (not bad going for this time on a saturday/sunday )

cheers

Hello Ian,
I am doing well thank you. And yourself? Hope the hangover is not too bad!
I did not read the part with the gay/homosexual comments which are not necessary.
As for getting the white frame, why don't you sell yours and buy one. Yes, it may be easier said than done, but if it is what you really want, people pay crazy money for things on ebay.

Most talented riders that I have seen with skill, have awesome looking bikes and it matters (not all of course l...'alot of all the gear and no idea') I have seen more great riders on cool looking bikes (matching etc) than I see equally riding standard boring builds.

WHY?

Because a lot of good experienced riders know exactly what they want, and will custom build. I know a lot of racers, and kit is important. Plus they can put there money where there mouth is.....

I am not against off the shelf bikes, as they offer great performance and value, and in the case where a customer is unsure of components, I would encourage them to rely on the manufactures experience and buying power to spec it.

Cheers, I love controversy, it explores other dimensions.!

Hello Ian. How are you this morning?

Unfortunately the world is built on opinions. Everybody has one. I understand where you are coming from. Iains opinion was aimed at me. I don't mind what was said. I've been on forums for quite some time now and i've come to learn that there are people who are like minded, people who are frank and straight to the point, people who will always keep therir opinion to themselves and people who will say whatever springs into their mind.

I'm the type of person that when I get home I wash my bike thoroughly and oil it up after every ride which usually involves a lot thrashing about and hard riding not afraid to get it scratched. I look after the things that meant hard work to get.

Some people think why wash it when its only going to get dirty again. Whatever, doesn't matter. It's their bike and opinion.

Don't let it get to you. Like I said your ride is sweet in my opinion. There were many other comments in favour also.

HI GUYS - replying to all here.

my hangover is not too bad - thanks for the concern rugbyred -

and glad to hear that im not the only one who likes an individual look -

i was just joking about wishing i had bought a white frame? - i is very happy with the black one. and the custom bits.

indeed the world is full of people with opinions and better for it - i am one one of those people. Grin

like you say some peeps will not agree or like what we  do - ant did not like the white stem and bars - this is all very positive and constructive criticism and/or praise. it works.

cheers guys

HELLO IAIN1775,

glad to hear you putting the record straight - i am a bit sensitive arn't i ? us arty types generally are.

i know you were  having more of an open/running joke with DAMO - i have picked up on fences and weeds in the patio comments etc - its all good fun.

however i did feel the 'colour matching' crack was levelled at my bike and my attitude towards the whole concept - the fact that you chose to emphasise 'the joke'  using DAMO and poor old lawrence llewellyn bowen and his masterpiece of telvision - changing rooms  as an example of 'being fussy' is probably a route i myself would have latched on to.

i know you are not homophobic - and i did not take it that way - i imagine real homophobics would be very very careful about what and where they say anything conroversial - so i can clearly see you are not in that category. totally innocent crack i understand.

anyway i did look ay your pic of your 5.5.1 - same bike as mine effectively - different colour.

glad you enoy riding it so much - speaking of which i want to crack on get out to hamsterley forest today - weather seems good.

i will probably stop by the supermarket first and get more cling film - its the only way to keep that horrid mud off! Cheesy

cheers

ian

I think the colour matching crack was aimed at me. There we are talking about your bike and colour matching in general and I post a picture of my green and white bike with completely unmatching pedals. Like I said before it dont bother me coz you have to expect it on forums like this. Iain has quite a dry sense of humour and I have also, so I get where he is coming from.

Anyways.  "Just my opinion" Grin Grin

Grand Prix has just started so I'm off. (each to their own before the wisecracks start) Cheesy

Two things:

1. It's only a bike.
2. It's only a forum.

One thing i dislike about having a white bike, is the looks that i get when i'm unloading it or putting it in the car, or just at trails... The other week, i was at llandegla, and there were these two kids watching me clean my bike before i put it in my car, and the parent (I guess) that was with them had a white meta 5 VIP, whilst i had the mini DH VIP.

People like to stare.... Especially as when it's as special as my mini dh.. Smiley
