In the Sept issue of What Mountain Bike the Commencal Meta 5.5.2 has taken the gold in the 5" trail bike shoot out, it also took the Editors choice award.

Summed up just how I feel about my Meta, it's not going to change the world but it's amazingly good fun and leaves me smiling like no bike before has ever done

I find myself making excuses just to go play around after work, "err, just checking the rear caliper alignment" before finding it's eaten 3 hours. Very comfy to ride for long distances and confidence inspiring too!

Get blot through forks and bolt through rear end and it makes the bike absolutely fly. This is on an 06 meta though.
Stiffens it up a bit, but not too much

Hi Guys,

We've just packed them off an '09 Meta 5.5.2 for a comparison - 08 vs. 09. So more Commencal exposure to follow . I'm betting (hoping!) they'll like the slightly slacker head angle (0.5degree) and the newer, stiffer linkage. Guy K is a top journo though and he's sure to tell it how it is.

I think it's due to appear quite soon (poss next month) in their 2009 preview issue.

I'll keep you posted...

Interesting that there's no mention of the other bike the Meta's always being compared with.
The one made by the northern inbreds.
What happened to the Orange 5.  Surely it would have been a contender?

You seem to be right - can't find any 08 5.5.2 in large.

[Edit] JD Cycles still advertising 08 5.5.2's in large  [/Edit]

Merlin still seem to have some 08 frame builds in medium & 08 5.5.3 in large.
Spec & weight suffers but price has got to be tempting.
