For anyone thinking of buying one, I managed to blag a go with a new post about to hit the market and the mini review can be found here;-

http://www.descent-world.co.uk/index.php?option=com_content&Itemid=82&task=view&id=910

And before anyone asks, this is a totally independent review, I don't work for, or have any connections with any companies associated with the article, this is merely a public service  Grin

The thing is, other than really competitive trail riders who want to beat their mates downhill (probably after being beaten uphill) by blatting down a trail without having to stop for a couple of seconds at the top I can't see who these are aimed at.

Downhillers / freeriders will have their saddle down most of the time and XC racers won't have one because of the weight.

I don't think stopping at the top of a downhill section is a bad idea if you're riding with mates, the fact of you lowering the saddle tells them that something exciting is coming up and you've got time to tell them how much fun their going to have if they don't land on their arses.

This would appeal to me. If I have to climb a hill I like my saddle high coz I find it easier to get up the hill. If halfway up there is a technical downhill bit I find it a ballache to change my seat and then again when I'm back on a climb.

Just my way of riding I suppose but they are ideal for me.

I have got a gravity dropper on my meta and was a bit unsure at first. About7 months on  it lives on there. an amazing bit of kiti as you don't have to stop so it means that you can keep going smoothly between steep descents and uphills, if you can try one they are amazing

Another thing with me is I always fricking forget to put my saddle down just as I hit the first jump and my shorts get caught on my saddle. Grin

Happens every time even when I know whats coming.
It'd be nice to just flick the switch when you remember. Smiley

How quickly do these things work then?

If you're already in the set up for a jump, I'd've thought you'll be concentrating on getting over it, saddle up your arse or not rather than trying to find a handlebar lever or - even worse - reaching under your saddle.

Maybe I'm just being to pedantic, but...I always find that if you've got your saddle around an inch or three under full climbing height you can hang off the back without ripping your balls off when you're moving forward.

It all boils down to the we ride and and which riding style makes us happy. I go to an unofficial downhill track and usually pedal to the top and ride as fast as I can and dare back down. I usually realise that I haven't put my seat back down as soon as Iv'e done the first single jump and the next one is a small gap jump about 5m further on. I usually ride at the back coz I'm shat so it is annoying when me and my mates have set off and I have to stop to put my seat down so I feel confident enough. Momentum ceased aswell so I'm saying it would be nice to have one of these seatposts. Just my opinion. Wink

To put it in the down position you need to have weight on the saddle, (action is exactly the same as an office swivel chair), so if you only remembering as you hit the first jump, it's going to be difficult to compress it an you need to be sat on the saddle.  Sat on the saddle it goes straight down in a fraction of a second.

Another flick of the lever and the saddle comes straight back up to fully extended position instant.
