The 2008 model looks neater with the one piece swing arm and front mech post on the main triangle. Not so keen on the internal routing of the rear mech (a la Orange full sussers). The ride will be exactly the same though I guess, which is brill!  Smiley If I was buying now I would buy a 2007 model at a reduced price (Real Cycles, Merlin, etc, etc).
Just my opinion though.

No 08 5.5.1's in the country yet, not due for a week or so, maybe a tad longer, but we have the 5.5.2's in, did a big comparison on them today with the 07, and was quite quite surprized with what we found.

Essentially, other than the visuals, and the main frame mounted front mech, there seems to be no big diference. The 08's weight a tiny bit more, but then it come standard with a bigger front tyre, bigger front rotor, RL not R fork and RP2 not Float R shock, meaning all the tiny bits of additional weight add up, but really not by enough to allow that be a consideration.

To get an 08 or cheap 07? Real toughie. Only you can decide. Do you want a bike that will still be considered new next summer, or do you want a bike that is already a year old.

it seems 2007s have been selling well and haven't seen any reduced ones.
realcycles doesn't offer any 5.5.1s

I just wondered if there are any technical aspects which I should consider.
Obviously the 2008 looks better, but does the swingarm work as good as the old one?

Sorry no 5.5.1's left, anywhere!

I have turned up some ex-demo bikes, mainly 5.5.2's, in all sizes. No idea on the price, only they will be cheap! If interested email or PM me.

It's a very short lived thing though. Yes, it goes a bit bonkers at this time of the year, but it's the same for every product that has a limited shelf life.

I used to hang onto stuff and slowly clear it out over a 3-6 month period, but that just prolonged the pain for people like yourself. Best option I reckon for someone that bought outside the silly season is clear the old stock, fast, then it's all done and dusted. Short term pain for long term gain I guess. Least this way all the cheap stuff is cleared in a matter of weeks and perceived values return to the original prices paid.

Finally don't think for one second that I or other dealers like it, we don't. There is no profit in selling off bikes that trade price, or below as is often the case. The bikes I've been clearing lately have had little profit for me, and I know that the importer has made a loss on them, but we all need to get our money out of old stock to get it into the new 08 stuff.

I think I can speak for every dealer out there and say we'd love to se the back of this sort of thing, but I can't see a way round it. Customers don't want to pre-order and wait for bikes, they want to walk into a shop, pay, and walk out with the bike, and if dealers run out of a product mid season, they get mullered, meaning the entire supply chain has to ensure they have plenty of stock, meaning there is always going to be an overhang at the seasons end.

Finally, it's way way better now than it used to be. Everyone is now much tighter on their sales projections and so there are a lot less bikes sloshing around at this time of the year, than there used to be.
