sizing help! Current ride is a SC Chameleon HT, medium size. Looking for meta 5 as first fs. What size of frame will give most similar feel - medium or small. Been told to go small. Thanks.

bit of a hot topic this one, and there are a few opinions. Have a look at this thread and see what you think....

I would have thought a small too, but I can be sure that SteveB will have a word of wisdom for you

I started that other thread in order to get some feedback. I'm a bit shorter than you and ride a medium. But I also have a longer inside leg. I can see that standover height be an issue for you, but I don't think its' that different between a small and a medium?

Thanks beechill_banty and druidh. Looks like I'll have to try the different sizes out at the lbs tomorrow. No real trail test though, probably just in the bike shop but should give an idea.

Do let us know what you decide. Maybe post on the other thread to keep all these queries together for future prospective buyers?

Oh - and enjoy!

Thanks to everyone for your help. I ended up with a medium. To me, the small was too cramped for anything but dh runs although the jump in size between the sm and m seem quite large. Nothing a shorter stem won't fix though. As it's my first fs, I asked the nslbs (not so local bike shop) to transplant as much of the bit from my ht to it. Feels weird having someone else building your ride. Should be able to collect it next week. Will post pics when I can.

OK got the bike finally but not a medium as first ordered. The shop didn't have a medium after all and don't know when or if new frames will arrive so I settled for a small. The cockpit feel is quite similar to my old ht where most of the bits have been cannibalized off and the ride  surprisingly firm (at softest rp23 setting)for a fs. My only other experience of a fs was a spesh enduro, which boinged quite a bit more in comparison. However, since I think it only had a float r at the back, that might have account for the difference.

Steveb: I think you're spot on about the medium - if I was going to do longer rides, for me that's 3hr+  but most of the riding I do is under this so I can live with the trade off of having a shorter tt but a more nimble bike.
