Well, I'been cliped for 24 years, but..

Flats. No doubt about it.

Athertons and CG clip in 'cause every second counts. In our case (I guess we're talking fun not racing) it's the safety issue. With a Mini DH you are able to roll over crazy stuff. In order to progress as quick as possible it's important to be able to make your bike go when things get to nasty.

And if you wanna go 'all the way' you should consider a 5.10 pair.

I ride both, If its a big ride I use time Atacs, but if i'm off to GT or Inners then its the 50/50s.

Having said that though it wouldn't ruin my day if I forgot to take the flats...

Might get shot down here, but I would say its better to learn the basics on flats before going to clipped.

I've always ridden SPD and have never had any problem with being clipped in during a crash... however the Meta 5 definately has been pushing my riding and I'm not confident being clipped-in on drops or technical, steep downhills. For that reason I'm considering trying flats, at least until my confidence is up. I've tried using flats before but found it really hard to get ride of my bad clipless habits (pulling up to bunny hop etc) and prefered being attached to the bike especially on fast bumpy descents.
