As the title says,I've just placed an order with Merlin Bikes for a 5.52 to replace the 07 5.52 that was stolen last week.I've  paid £1,379 so it's a pretty good deal.Just hope I'm gonna like the 08 just like I loved the 07 model.

I don't get the feeling there's only a few bikes left.I think  in the next couple of months the price will drop further to maybe £1250 fo 5.52

And I thought I'd got a deal paying £1700 for the metaXT.
Some cracking deals about at the minute and a 5.5.2 at that price is a steal.

I went from an 07 5.5.2 to an 08 5.5 VIP due to frame breakage. I'm much faster on the '08...

Just ordered a 08 meta 5.5.2 myself today from merlin for the same price, i was talking to the assistant and he said they were sending out 10 of the metas today and that was before noon, really pleased with my choice and glad i turned my back on the trek fuel ex8, specialized fsr xc pro and the scott genius mc40, i was looking at the meta 4.2 but in the end plumpled for the meta 5.5.2 and i can't wait to get a hold of it.
p.s can anyone point me in the right direction of a flat pedal looking at the turvativ holzfeller pedasl at the mo.

Look at the DECENT FLAT PEDALS topic in this section for some views.

Alex I've got a meta 5.2 07 and it would cost me a fortune to buy a newer model - do you have to say things like that!!!

we'd be hard pushed to pick any bike where someone has not had a problem with, out of the hundreds all bike makers sell to the public, i was seriosly looking at the trek and kept getting people slagging of the frame quality to me, then the specialzed fsr xc, even a certain bike dealer told me they were having problems around the rear shock on that model.
just so glad i happened across the commencal meta now and etting such a great deal from merlin made me order now and not wait for the 2009 model.

I much prefer SRAM rear mech and shifters to Shimano it seems that most people have a clear preference of one over the other for a variety of reasons but actually, you are right in that a VIP frame and self build is a much better option as I have changed just about everything on my bike since Jan.  I still prefer the black over the white though - doesnt show the marks anywhere near as much.

agree with the colour, and believe me i wouldnt have changed anything on my meta if things hadn't given up on me. my opinion on sram is that the shifting is better than shimano but reliability is questionable.

Ok I've had the bike for just over 3 weeks & initial impressions are good.I haven't been able to give it a real test, just a few runs over at Cannock Chase, nothing to taxing on the bike. But 2mora I'm off to Afan & will give the bike a test on the Wall & Whites Level, can't wait Grin.If any one you are gonna be up there about 10ish give me a shout.I'll be the one who looks like he was up at 6am & has been driving for 3 hours.Ah the things we do just so we can go fast ish down the other side of a hill Grin
