i'd recommend against it...

I got one today, and it took hours of faffing about to fit, and it's at a rubbish angle too.

Looks ok though, is relatively light, and functional, but i had to chop paarts off, and get useful with the file.

Pics...

and you can see the part i had to cut off here...

Hi,

I emailed mrp about these guards, this it what they said.

Hi Rob,

Thanks for the email.  You can get the G2 to work on the Commencal Mini. But, like most other guides (as you are aware) it's not terribly easy.

The simplest way that I have found is to mount the chainring on the outer-most position of the crank spider.

The best way I've found is to do the following.

Set up your drive side bottom bracket like this:    Shell/spacer/ISCG adaptor facing OUT/then G2 boomerang. This will give it just enough to clear the main pivot. You can do a tiny bit of filing on the top of the arm to get a bit more counter clockwise rotation out of it.

Then you'll need to mount your chainring on the "big" chainring position on your crank spider. This should get you where you need to be.

The chainline won't be great, but it's pretty much the best you can do with this bike. It's a bummer that they put the 68mm shell on it, and the pivot is so wide.  That's what makes it so difficult.  I've heard rumor that they are going to an 83mm bb shell for 2009.  That will solve a lot of problems.

Cheers,
Ryan Cranston

i emailed MRP bout it too, they said 'it should fit, but it may take some work'

that's it.

And running the chainring on the outer position? No thanks, i like my big ring on the back.

it seems to run fine, albeit a teeny bit of chain rubbage, from me getting bored with the file.

Oh, and thanks commencal for providing 3 ISCG mounts that are straight, and all in line. There is up to 3mm difference in position of the iscg mounts, meeaning that it's a challenge even just to get the boomerang on straight.

Well, a bit more progress today with it.

I have now sent it off to get milled to change the shape of the boomerang, so as i can rotate it more clockwise. Cutting lots of metal off the boomerang too, so as it fits better, and to make it lighter. Loosing some of the top cage too, so that'll lose more weight.

i'll post more pics when i get it back.

Update  Grin
Some major machining work was done, to get it to look ok, part slicing of the inner cage, and machining of the boomerang.

I don't have a clue mate, as the pivot points are in totally different places.

It's spot on now, silent, apart from the little bit of rubbing on the top cage when in the big ring at the back. Just need to get the file out on the cage again.

also means that my ring is protected from the rocks on my local trails, where i've been letting the rocks bounce off my chain.

it's a nice alternative to an E.13, but it comes at the cost of having to majorly alter it. Ideally, i still want to rotate it round a little more, but that is the furthest round it'll go, without damaging the integrity of the top part of the boomerang.

And i also think i'm the only person to have mounted a G2 to a commencal Cheesy
