It seems we both agree with Iain1175, the Meta 5 is for proper XC riding and whatever, you come across on a XC ride, not for freeride stuff, man made drops and jumps etc.

er no, I agree with his definition of XC. I do NOT agree that the Meta 5 is just an XC bike. ITs far more than that.

What ever happened to the real outdoors, day long self guided epics across the moors, map-reading (remember them OS paper things?!), topping up water bottles from mountain streams, exploring the unknown, not seeing another person for hours.
That is XC (Across Country), that is REAL mountain biking. None of this glorified BMX track 5" drop off catogrised into different sub-genre stuff.
It doesnt have to be a rock garden or overly technical or made of wood feet above the forest floor just get out there enjoy the fresh air and go ride your bike, whatever bike that may be

no seriously THATS WHY i bike. its the best way to experience nature, or towns too: exploring the unknown! it's like hiking with extra adrenalin! would be same with climbing i guess but there your too much in one place. with bike you can see lots places. i still use those OS paper things. bike, map, water thats it!!! everything build(jumps etc) is a different hobby, it goes with skateboarding, doin tricks and having fun. but those ridiculous computers what you use to make those what ever graphs of anltitude plaa plaa are totally a different hobby. its the same than marathon running, bodybuilding and solarioum. hahaha

Agree with you Affe except that a GPS is quite a useful back up to the OS map when you're in dense woodland - all trees start to look the same!  I guess its probably more accurate to call the Meta 5 an all mountain bike rather than XC - it'll take you up, down and across pretty much all terrrain and I reckon that's its purpose .
