hehe, well, no lycra would look rediculous with the pink thongs and neon yellow tank tops i usually wear, so i better not get addicted to lycra as well... hehe.

Actually i don't have any biking specific clothing at all besides my helmets, knee pads and tld descender protector "jacket". Guess i should by some, including some shoes, real soon - though lycra will probably not be included.

well, it's a matter of preference, but i do think that a lefty max, and especially the carbon one that is currently on my bike, look pretty good. The performance is really quite good too so it's a win win. Most people find em kinda odd though so one gets quite a few questions, but oh well, being a twin i'm pretty used to repetetive questions.

There is a saying in the great world of whitewater kayaking that an 'open canoe' paddler has 'Half the paddle, Twice the Man' ( as they only have one blade as opposed to the two blades of a kayaker )

So for a lefty rider, that should be 'Half the Fork, Twice the..........'  ??

Wow, I am looking at the Commencal line up for my new bike and that thread was exactly what I have been looking for.....some honest opinions on when things go wrong.

My challenge is matching my riding to a bike now... I don't really do XC strictly and I don't really do DH (small rock gardens)..it's somewhere in between  Western Australia is pretty flat!

I might bunny hop a few rocks and logs....zig zag some single track....hmmm where do I fit in the Commencal line up? I was gunning for a Meta 552

Then you are right to pick the meta (I have the 552...08 version) and I do some kindof xc, light DH, nothing too bonkers. I was 18 st (thats 115kgs in real money) and I'm a bit clumsy with no issues to frame in almost a year. (now 16st...yey!!)

If you keeep breaking the frames, I would suggest that you have the wrong bike for your intended purpose. Yes the Meta is a good DH bike, but its also a good XC, and a good Enduro, and a good place to hang your coat......its a good all rounder!!

Bikes break, as do cars, tv's, mobile phones, computers, etc. Anyone who rides these bikes know they are onto a good thing, and as mention previously, this forum proves how passionate we are about the Commencal brand

Thanks for the advice though.....I am 98% sure I want a Meta5... just got to decide wether to by the 08 or 09....thought with the 09 being slightly slacker than the 08 the hill climbing might be more of an issue on steep sections...

Just having a thought after reading the whole thread.......... the people that are breaking the meta 5 frames why not look into the heavier duty frames eg the supreme mini dh or even the furious yeas i know you wouldnt really use 1 as a xc bike but i reckon you could have serious fun on one as a trail centre bike the hills mite be a tart but the rest would be simply devine just a thought

Sorry Kimbo, I spend too much time on the forum.

Mudlovers are a sealed cable units. i.e. you have the metal gear cable inside a thin liner, which is then thread throh the normal outers. You can have the cable inners only on the downtube (via the factoey cable stops - like me) or you could run full length outers (from the shifter to the mech)

Benefit both ways is that no mud,dust or water can get to your cables....result...better shifting.

Sorry, not up on lingo there.....

The cable to the rear mech is exposed where it runs down the downtube. 
Depends on you're riding conditions but sh!t can get into the outer there and mess with rear mech shifting.
Transfil Mudlovers are a sealed cable system which prevent that from happening (and make your shifting really light as well).  Or you can run a full outer cable from the shifter to the mech with a bit of invention.  Lots of people on here run with the Mudlovers cable system.

ome to think of it has anyone cracked a meta666 yet? Mines is still fine and ive been using it as a lightwieght DH bike
