I know this is an old classic but i would appreciate some advice.
I've spent the last 4 n a half years ragging a Marin Wolf Ridge to bits, Trail centres, Peaks, lakes etc and i've just cracked the frame!
I'm 14st and love the XC trail at Innerleithen, esp Caddon Bank!
I kak myself on the way down but just love it!
I've got a hardtail for local singletrack duties but want something for the big days out!

Do i go Meta 5.5xt? Will i get one? and at what deal?
or
Do i go Meta 666? Custom build? Which fork etc etc?

This is keeping me awake at night!

Cheers

The bikes are really so similar, it gonna come down to your fork choice, and if you want a bit of extra travel as an insurance policy.

The 5.5 is very capable of a lot, it climbs like an XC bike and can descent like a really capable big hitter. It is really a trail bike but that's what most of us do anyway. I've got a few XL XT's back in stock at a decent price, about ten percent off I think, and I'm pretty sure Merlin has most sizes too with some decent discounts on them.

The 666 is everything the 5.5 is and a bit more. It's a bit more overbuilt so a bit stronger and has a bit more travel, but the angles are more or less the same so it's no more a DH bike than the 5.5. If I'm 100% honest I'm not entirely sure what the market is for the 666 in the UK. It's a great bike, but for 90% of the stuff we ride day in day out a 5.5 is fine, the 666 makes sense if you do a lot of altitude type riding and decending, overwise I'm not sure. If you fancy a 666 frame I've all sizes with ten percent off. Least I will have soon on the website, but happy to do the discounted price now, if you want one.

Thanks for that, I was really keen on the 5.5xt but thought i'd missed the boat on the stock level. Now i feel drawn to the 666, weather that's cuz i've just cracked the frame of a trail bike? not sure.
Anyone ride a 666 regularly and feel it's too much bike for 90% of UK riding? How heavy are they in standard bulid? The rock shok lyric seems like a pretty good fork, but i've not found many reviews..

Thanks for your comments..
