Hi guys,im calling in on your collective knowledge here. Im fortunate enough to be looking to buy a new bike, but am unsure of which one to choose. I really liked the sound and look of the Furious when i 1st heard about it last year but upon further research i reckon the Mini dh1 could also be a good contender for my next set of wheels.
Let me give you the low down,i used to race dh a few years back and grew to love my custom built kona stab, but gave it up,now a few years on i've picked up a 27seven deviant to get my lazy ass back into what i always loved and lived(f#*k knows why i stopped riding),now 18months on (and that im nice and smooth thanks to riding a hardtail) im looking to buy something more hardcore, the riding spot i hit most days is good old glentress,so im looking for something that will rip up spooky, the freeride trails etc and wont be a stranger to inners either,i will be venturing to the likes of mabie and ae too to ride the 4x,downhill tracks and darkside trail, and hopefully fort bill at somepoint(however this will prob be only once a year). To be honest im no pro and wont be doing any 50ft drops or hucks, prob the biggest i will try will be around the 20ft+ (if i get drunk enough 1st,lol).
What do you guys reckon i should opt for? i can get my hands on a mini dh2 from eddy bikes to demo(but have to leave a 1k deposit, whats that all about eh,whats wrong with leaving my credit card or even my dog as a deposit?) but dont know of anywhere that has a demo Furious around my area??
So to sum it up(i know ive gone on for a bit,but its so you get the WHOLE picture) im liking the mini dh1 cos its lighter than the furious(i will be opting for a full build, not frame for a custom effort) and it has a better spec too,but the furious looks Badass and on paper sounds nice, but as we all know in reality its a different thing. im by no means a small guy,im 6ft and chubby, lol (im doing my best to get rid of the latter bit there) but like my bikes to be nice and flickable, planted on corners and rough stuff but love to get some air(i'd sooner pop over a rocky section than tank through it like a bear with a sore head) and not overly heavy(i add enough weight to the equation,ha)

ANY HELP is greatly appreciated, thanks guys.

Hi there. Well I have a mini dh 2. It serves me well for what i have around my way. It peddles good , and takes what thrown at it well. I've never had a go on a furious ,but i don't think they are the best to peddle around on. Which i do on my mini. Yeah Edinburgh cycles is abit shite asking for 1k. What happens if someone doesn't have that money straight off? lol. Where about do you live?

If you want to pedal uphills, I'd say get a miniDH.

I love my Furious, but it's a complete b*****d to pedal up hills. You can only run one ring up front (it's not physically possible to fit a front mech), which means if you do pedal uphills, you need to grind away (I have managed to get within 100m of the top of Hamsterly form the very bottom before collapsing in the past!).

However, point it downhill, and it just wants to fly :-D
And it feels perfect for riding shore  Smiley
