Trail food
«

Just doing a survey with my riding cronies about the fuel they use when out on the trail - I've witnessed a mixture of low-tech (Mars bar), hi-tech (Powerbar), natural (banana) and sag-increasing (Eccles cake).
My recent offer of my slightly salty nuts was declined by all.
What do you like to munch on?

Apples, Bananas, and Jelly Babies.
Perhaps the odd breakfast bar thrown in for longer rides, or kitkat/mars bar if I think a quick energy boost will be needed at some point.

hmm I'm uncertain about the structural integrity of a kitkat in a backpack.
I'm with you on the Jelly Babies though - unbeatable.

I aways plan my rides to pass by a KFC about halfway round, I find there is no better riding partner than Colonel Sanders (well maybe possibly Farmer Jack)!!
presumably you carry your shock pump with you after feasting on a Family Dustbin?

TBH..
i never eat when i'm out on the trail, even if i'm out all day.
i just consume tonnes and tonnes of liquids. (3L goes in about 2 hours).
I do however, make sure i have a fairly large meal before going riding (Well, before the drive to the trails).
Last time i ate something whilst riding, it made me feel sick.

I like a big banana...
or a slice of moist carrot cake washed down with a cuppa at the obligatory cafe/greasy spoon.
If it's a really epic adventure, I take a jetboil with brew kit and make my own..

Impressed that you carry your Jetboil with you....can't say I've ever used mine anywhere other than the car park or campsite!
And as for liking a big banana, I have to say I prefer two medium-sized ones - more options and flexibility that way.

I go faster when I know there is a cake at the end of the trail ( i.e. at Llandegla )
I've even proposed that they put up signs near the end with a countdown in distance to the cafe....1 Mile to Cake....1/2 Mile to Cake....you are almost there.....

Soreen Malt Loaf, sliced & smothered in Strawberry Jam. + Sandwiches if it's an epic, my bottom wouldn't be very nice if I didn't get some normal food in me throughout the day.

I always carry for when required, a Torq bar for sustained energy, (esp the pineapple & Ginger), wine gums and an imported choccy bar, (Ausi Cherry Ripe) for a quick hit.

Have just been informed that either toasted maltloaf or maltloaf with Marmite are a valid choice.
Yes, you heard right - maltloaf
with Marmite
