Les Gets / Morzine is a good spot.

Huge amount of trails. Nice food etc.

Not sure about flights from Edinburgh though. I'm living over on the little island to your west.

Morzine everytime. Trails around Portes du Soleil are amazing.

www.custombreaks.co.uk is a perfect place to stay bang in the middle of Morzine. I get out there every year.

If you want lift assisted gravity riding and want to share the trails with half of Europe, test your suspension on the braking bumps into every corner and cue up for everything, ya Morzine. If you want the same but no Q's and way better trails, then Les Deax Alps region.

You you want proper manly riding, only proper rocky technical trails that don't have all the fun and challenge groomed out of them, and want to earn the downs by actually riding your bike to the top, Southern Spain is the only place.

And next month, I shall be going to both :-)

Les Gets and Morzine are 'Disney' hillsides compared to the likes of Verbier.

I go to both. Les Gets is for 'fun'. DH tracks are OK, good no brainers but very busy, the Freeride/Trail is awesome in Les Gets/Morzine/Avoriaz area, keeping to the further a field lift networks, like trying to do the "Passportes" route. (there is great technical singletrack if you know where to go....need Guide) Do 'Les Gets' if you want a no brainer

I would go to Verbier, 2 hour descents on natural singletrack, with only the few riders out there. Mixture of terrain. DH bike friendly to access top class dh runs or singletrack. 5-7 inch trail bike would be awesome there. Very up-market and not full of chavs!!! A rider who likes to be very challenged on a more natural trail basis. I would highly recommend Eric at www.sportstravelcompany.com. FLAT PEDALS RECOMMENDED FOR 'THE VERTIGO' Run...on the edge, literally!

(basically it takes 3 lifts and about 1.5 hours to get 2200m from les get, Verbier where we stay 15mins, 1 lift to get 2300m!)

Les Deux AlpeWink

Would that not be "wanders off with two f's?

And despite the bad press Les Get/Morzine is popular for a reason - it is amazing.  Regular flights to Geneva from Edinburgh too.

I would say it depends on what style of riding you are after. Did Les Arcs a couple of years back, with some real good single track descents. Had a day of Back Country too, which is off the beaten track and was awesome. These holidays are great if you want lift assist and a gravity assist ride, but there are other options too. Wasn't too crowded, but very little o do on a night.

Went to Southern Spain twice in one year (2005) with Freeride Spain. You get some of the ascent with them taking you in a minibus with bikes on a trailer, but have to climb the rest of the way using your legs. This way, though, you earn the descent, and there are some partucularly good ones. Weather is a bit more predictable, and pick the right time of the year you can go to the top of the Valetta and doa 114km 'descent' to the coast at Castell de Ferro.

The Spanish option is usually cheaper, you can tailor the dates, and the flights tend to be cheaper too.

Would do both options again.

20 days and counting until I'm out in Andalucia.

So looking forward to it as I'm fed up of the rain and mud here.  Wink
