My rear hub locked solid yesterday
Does anyone know the procedure for making a claim or who the first contact should be?
Thanks

Yep, as covered many a time, your 'contract of sale', which in part is your warranty is with the dealer who sold you the bike.
Doesn't matter where you are, how you bought it ( unless it is 2nd hand and then no 'warranty' exists ), your first port of call is the dealer who sold you the bike.
Just go in and get it sorted.

Hmmm which hubs do you have? My XT hub locked a couple of weeks ago...managed to tweak/bash it free and been fine ever since. LBS couldn't find anything wrong with it, but the other guys are right - take it back from whence it came!!
Let us know how you get on as I'm still slightly edgy about mine having magically fixed itself...

'Twas indeed an XT hub of the M775 Meta 55XT variety.
Near the end of my ride I noticed that it had a tiny amount of free play <1mm at the tyre, certainly not enough to get concerned about, so I just tightened the QR a tad to get me home [not excessively] then about a mile down the track there was a 'thunk' and a noticeable sideways kick from the back and the bugger tightened up and locked. Just one of those things I guess but very frustrating as the bike has had 'issues' since day one.
I'll keep you posted as to the cause......LBS suspect a a missing ball bearing
But we shall see...............

Odd one this, we had an XT back in the other day with exactly the same problem. It's he only time I've ever seen a problem with XT rear hubs. We just installed a new freehub and all was fine.
Out of interest, what size bike was it?

It's a large, I'm around 90kgs and use it mainly for rocky singletrack which can get steep and fast but max' 4ft landings at speed so should take it shouldn't it? No bent rims yet.
I somehow destroyed the rear Commencal hub on my 2005 Meta within 6 months and replaced it with an XT hub, fine ever since, it didn't even need adjusting in nearly 2 years!

Oh. I only asked as the one we had issues with was a medium, so I was trying to see if it was a btach of rear hubs, or a wider issue.

1mm of play at the tire is a lot.
To me this seems that the the bearing cones got lose during your ride. The XT M775 rear hub has a 14mm TA on which the cones thread and then the locknut (which adapts the 14mmTA into a 10mm QR). It can be that one of the locknut got lose, and thus the cone. The cup on the freehub body is quite large and if the cone is a bit lose the balls can gather together (not all balls will lay into a circle) and thus creating an interference between the axle and the hub body.
I have such a hub and last days I overhauled it, nothing special just normal maintenance, and something similar happened during assembly. The balls gather together add the axle got stuck. I pull it out, rearrange the balls and put it back with care.
If you worked on Shimano hubs before you can try to take the axle out and check is the freewheel is working, check the cones to see that they were not damaged and reassemble back. I doubt that there is a problem with the freewheel by the way you explained it, and also by the play in the wheel, but I might be wrong. I would take a look before sending the wheel to the distributor.
BTW, is good to check a hub 2-3 times in a year, no matter of its type/brand. Also check for wheel play before every ride.
Happy trails,
Adrian

Thanks, usually check the bike weekly [give bearings a wiggle
] and I am relatively competent with a spanner but given that it's still under warranty was going to leave it to Bike Active - who by the way, have been very friendly and good about the whole thing and have said that they will get it fixed

Steve, mine is a Large and I'm now thinking what happened to mine could easily be explained by these posts
....seriously thinking about going back to the LBS with a request for a replacement hub!
If it locked up whilst riding, what's the worst that could happen? (i.e. to the bike and to me!!)

Worst? If your just putting in big push down on the pedal the chain snaps and you fall forward, or the chain don't snap and you hurt your lower back, or any other things.
No need for a new hub, just a new freehub.

Mine locked relatively slowly [20 secondsish], had I been going down something relatively steep it would have been like gradual application of the rear brake.......wouldn't have fancied it on any 'shore though
- I'd get it checked, it should be under warranty anyway.
By the by, the bike before that was AMAZING! The front end keeps surprising me with amount I can load it up in corners and I'm now going off stuff my mate with a Patriot 66 won't do
